“Average food and STUPID PITTSBURGH STEELERS FLAG ON FLAG POLE!”
Reviewed January 6, 2012

First of all, we live in California, but they have a huge Steelers flag on their pole recently added. Why would you be so stupid to put one of the most hated teams banners on your flag pole? To show how stupid you are??? Horrible. Will NEVER go there again. The food was okay, but now forget it.

“Great food and excellent service”
Reviewed September 30, 2011

CJ Grill is an excellent place to eat! My wife is gluten and dairy free and they were able to accommodate all requests without hesitation. The chef even came out to ask questions before the food was cooked to make sure the he got it right!

“Good food, uneven service”
Reviewed September 12, 2011

This restaurant is fairly new to the Mammoth Lakes restaurant scene and was working out some of the bugs when we visited (more than once) in July 2011. Getting seated was difficult, as the entrance isn't visible to the servers if they are in the kitchen or dining room. The food was consistently excellent and well-prepared with plenty of healthy options. Getting the tables cleared and ready for customers was fairly slow. It was obvious that some of the servers were willing, but not yet ready for primetime. It was also obvious that one of the servers wasn't really interested in helping customers, or even tying back his hair. Yuck!

“Good light meals with fine wines.”
Reviewed September 10, 2011

When one travels, it is sometimes difficult to find tasty light supper fare. CJ's Grill in Mammoth Lakes fills the bill. They offer a variety of meat salads and a nice selection of wines by the glass. The strawberry chicken salad with mixed greens and feta cheese with a raspberry vinagrette was absolutely delicious. The shrimp Caesar salad also made a big hit. Hot rolls and a nice glass of wine made the meal complete. Carey, co-owner and hostess, was very personable and made us feel welcome and well cared for. This is a fairly new restaurant, but it seems to be well on its way to becoming a favorite in the area.

“Mediocre food, but great service...”
Reviewed August 26, 2011

CJ's was a solid 5 on a scale of 1 to 10. The atmosphere was pleasant enough, and they are still transitioning from the restaurants that were there previously. Some remnants of swiss Cafe can still be seen. That said, the service was wonderful and the waiters prompt. Granted, we were there during late dinner service, and so the crowd was minimal, but the service was the highlight of the dining experience.

We both had forgettable entrees (really! - I can't remember what we had), but the one thing I remember was the Amish coleslaw - which, I believe, had started to ferment and give off that sulphur aroma that fermenting cabbage gives off. I asked the owner what she thought and she said it was the apple cider vinegar. Having fermented cabbage for japanese pickles and sauerkraut, I know that this was from "older" cabbage.

Anyway, the overall experience left us looking forward to finding other dining adventures in Mammoth.
