“Not worth the wait - don't bother”
Reviewed April 4, 2013 via mobile

Bypassed this place the night before as the wait was an hour and a half. Stopped by when it opened and asked if they took reservations. Owner told us no, but come before 6 when wait time should not be too long. Arrived at 5.30, walked through restaurant, happy to see lots of empty tables. Hostess takes our name and says wait will be 20 mins. Huh? With so many empty tables? As we are standing waiting, people are calling on the phone and being put on the waitlist - would have been nice to be told that earlier on, but whatever....so we are waiting and waiting and a party comes in walks to an empty table in the bar area sits down and orders, without checking in with the hostess. Huh? "Oh, you don't have to check in for a table over there you just sit down?" Well why didn't you tell us that in the first place?Aha, drinks and food are cheaper in the bar because it's Happy Hour, so that's why you didn't tell us we could sit there!.....35 mins later of waiting in the cramped entryway, we are shown to our table and as we walk through the restaurant there are still many empty tables. Huh? "Oh, the kitchen can't manage so we limit the number of menus we hand out at a time". So you would rather have your customers, many of whom have tired little kids standing outside in the rain and the cold waiting instead of offering them a seat in the restaurant and a drink? Great! Complete customer service failure.

When food arrives it's mediocre. The Durban curry is good, that's about all I can say. The Corn Chowder we sent back as it was more spicy than either the Chilli or the Curry. Corn Chowder, spicy? The worst was the kids grilled cheese - a burger bun with a slice of barely melted cheese inside. Like a burger-less cheeseburger, Huh?

There are simply just not enough restaurants in the Village to cater for the amount of people here on a holiday week. With so much business it's easy for these restaurants to become completely complacent about their food and service.

“Very Popular Place, Rather Pricey”
Reviewed March 31, 2013 via mobile

Waited an hour to get in as this place was buzzing. Smells fantastic with mouth watering menu. Great service in spite oh how busy it was. Food came very quickly - too quickly? Fish and chips were fab- our son loved it and it was huge (at least by British standards). Burger good (although came with chips rather than fries) and ribs OK, but nothing special. No little side bits like salad or coleslaw unless you pay extra. Rather overpriced, which lowered our rating. $100 bill plus tip.

“Great food!”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

Our first day of arrival to mammoth we decided to try Smokeyard and enjoyed it so much that we went back the very next night. The baby back ribs were excellent and the Mac and cheese was very tasty! Service was great. It was a bit of a wait but, it was the first day of spring break so we expected that. Our second day we went for happy hour. We had an awesome bartender named Jen who made all of my weird drink requests possible. If you are on a budget the happy hour menu gives plenty of options at great prices. We will definitely return to Smokeyard on our next trip to Mammoth!

“Something for everyone”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

We were having a difficult time picking a restaurant because everyone in our group seemed to want something different. We struck gold with this place because they have steaks, seafood, pasta, pizza, barbecue, burgers, salads, and even some South African specialties. I had the Durban Curry of the South African menu, and it was delicious. Everyone in our group was quite happy with what they ordered. Prices were reasonable as well.

“Don't go too late”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

The service was good but the food pretty average. I ordered the Colorado Lamb chops - they must have been huge lambs as the bones were massive but very fatty - mutton, not lamb. We were not that late but they started hoovering as we were finishing our meal. Bad - would not go again.
