“Not the best happy hour”
Reviewed November 28, 2011

The food is OK... and for the price you feel like you should be getting more for what you're paying for. I wouldn't go there for the food. The fancy happy hour drinks are good, but expensive.

“The best food in Mammoth, hands down. Great bar.”
Reviewed November 28, 2011

If you are looking for the best food in the village, look no further. Hands down one of the best burgers you will find, anywhere. We were so impressed we ate here on back to back nights.

The Smokeyard Burger - bacon, mushrooms and onions, bbq sauce, aoli, and aged white chedder - is the bomb. The bun is excellent, almost like a cheesesteak it is so tender.

The thin crust pizza - amazing. I ate the whole thing by myself. I am not a thin crust guy, but this one is really tasty. It was pepperoni with 4 cheeses, so good.

We started off with the sweet potato fries both nights, that comes with the house aoli, which is a thousand island dressing with a spicy kick spin-off. Very good.

The bar scene is cool there - a big bar with many bar tables so you don't have to go sit down formal style if you don't want to. Some good beers on tap including the Mammoth brewing co. Also good wine selection.

Service is great - we had the same bartender both nights and she rocked it. The owner is always there walking around and being social as well, which is how they should act.

Overall I highly recommend this spot for good eats and drinks. It is also located right in the village mall, so you can walk out the door to Lakanuki, Hyde, or any other bar in the area for afterhours fun.

“Stay away at all costs”
Reviewed October 15, 2011

This is one of the first reviews we have ever written but we felt compelled to try and save others from this experience. First of all, the place was filthy dirty. Bugs on the lights with heavy dust and the kitchen surfaces could best be described as grimy. When we walked through the door our initial response was to bolt and we should have. While the waitress was pleasant and friendly, the food was simply horrible. My husband had the island burger and asked for it rare...... he got a hockey puck that was inedible. Our vegetarian nephew had he chile and found it almost inedible. The wings were barely passable and the corn chowder was heavy with minimal flavor. The only saving grace was the BLT wedge which which quite good and one of the pizzas was passable. We love Mammoth and come here almost every year and we love most of the restaurants. This was a huge disappointment.

Quite typical American fare, very fried, very calorific, tasty but some of our choices were greasy and rather fast food outlet.

“Avoid at all cost”
Reviewed September 24, 2011

First let me say that we had a salad and pizza at the Smokeyard and they were just fine. It was not until we received our "sampler" dinner that everything fell apart. This was a meal consisting of tri-tip, quarter chicken and St. Louis Ribs. The ribs came to us totally burnt. Upon telling the waitress that the ribs were over cooked to an extreme, she told us that she would replace one rib which came back burnt again. Our quarter chicken consisted of one chicken leg. We told the waitress that a quarter chicken was two pieces....usually breast and wing, or leg and thigh, but she said their policy is only a leg. After seeing the waitress arguing with the chef, we realized that we should just pay the bill and count this a bad experience/restaurant.

I would seriously consider avoiding this restaurant if you are looking for good BBQ.
