The water is scalding hot in some places and you are not allowed to swim. There are part that you can see steam coming out of the earth.

I love seeing active geological features. The Mammoth area is a geologically active area! The creek used to be a popular swim spot, but it has been closed for several years. You can still drive there and walk around.

Very interesting, but for safety, area around pools and stream are fenced off. Looks like a bridge washed away and you cannot get close to the area, but we saw some fly-fisherman on the stream nearby.

This was really a fun place to experience a true geothermal hot spring. Apparently some folks couldn't keep it together and the forest service didn't want any more people doing dumb stuff and dying on their watch. The ticket for trying to sneak into the water is really expensive and not worth it. As far as I know there were really very few injuries and I'm of the opinion that it should be reopened to bathers, just prohibit alcohol. I don't want to chill the party, but I do want to be able to get in the water.

If you haven't seen hot springs before this is well worth a visit. No fees to pay as it is only small but still a great sight to witness if you can bear the smell!!
