We were quite impressed with this hotel. It is very basic and not flashy at all. It is clean and offers free wifi. There is a free shuttle into town which is very useful. Staff were very courteous and friendly. We had a few drinks at the bar, but unfortunately did not eat at the restaurant which looked quite good. I would imagine that during ski season it would have one of the better locations of most hotels as it is higher up the slopes than most places we passed.

Overall, a solid hotel with competent staff.

Cosy and luxurious inn - the rooms are very comfortable and the beds very big and warm. Surroundings are out of this world - when we visited there was snow on the top of the mountains. It must be so pretty when the ski season begins. Shuttle bus to town is available and whilst I didn't use it there is a pool.
General shop with a lovely lady - great cup of coffee and pastries for breakfast.
The hotel is very high up so take things easy as the altitude can make you feel shorter of breath - but this is the perfect place to sit back and relax,

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel have great views.

We got a great AAA rate, so no complaint there. The room worked. Coffee maker was welcomed. View of the lifts and mountain was pretty great. Love the old photos lining the halls. Gives you a sense of the simple history of skiing. My only complaint was having to drive down the hill for a decent priced meal.

The location is quite nice and the lodge (where the restaurant is) looks pretty from the outside and inside. The inside of the "hotel" however was horrible. Walking towards the end of the building to our room felt like walking a hospital floor: very impersonal, one door right next to the other. Additionally, the carpet floor was dirty (many visible stains), the walls were painted in a brownish shade.

Our room on the ground floor was more of an apartment than a hotel room: We had a huge living room with a fully equipped kitchen and a table with six chairs. There was one bedroom (view to the garage!) with adjacent bathroom, a separate wall bed in the living room and an additional bathroom. All in all, perfect for a family but the room was no better than the hallway. The place needs renovation urgently as it is seriously run down.

Just stayed one night - it was just a stop over between Yosemite and Death Valley.
Hotel pretty empty - really it is between seasons - all lifts up mountain were closed.
Put in West Wing building - not prepared to pay extra $30 for upgrade to main hotel building as only staying one night.
Short walk to main building - even in zero temperatures not a big deal!
Main bedroom in good condition - two large beds and lights and tv looked relatively new; however bathroom needs refurbishment.
Had dinner in Grill - good service and food.
For breakfast did not want full buffet so bought continental breakfast in Hotel's general store. Reception staff did not mention this option.
Very annoying feature is that the hotel charges $20 per night for various features including coffee/tea in room, wifi, parking, local phone calls; however what is really really annoying is that it includes ski related extras which is patently irrelevant out of season!!! It would be less insulting if the charge was just added to the room tariff!

This is really two hotels. A really nice hotel if you stay in the main building. Or a budget, low quality hotel if you stay in one of the other buildings. They've renovated the main building only. There are no queen beds in the main building, just the other buildings. So don't reserve a queen bed.... reserve a king bed if you want the main building. Also, you probably won't find any 'deals' on hotel.com or expedia for the king beds. Those deals are for the extension buildings.... be careful. We reserved the queen bed room on Hotels.com, but had to pay an extra $35 when we checked in since we wanted the main building.

The restaurant is excellent! Don't feel like you have to go into town for a nice, romantic dinner. The service is great too. Very friendly staff in the restaurant and the front desk. And the view of the slopes from the bar/dining room is spectacular. We visited in Sept., and it snowed overnight. So check the forecast before you head out. Icy roads might prevent you from getting from the downtown area up to the slopes on the mountain where this hotel is. And they might prevent you from leaving early.

The bed was really comfortable. Lots of pillows, and heavy blankets and comforter. Not those plastic blankets you get at hotels sometimes. Nice big LCD TV too. And a really big, deep bathtub. If you're a skier you'll be thankful the major gondola ski lift is right in front of the building. And in the summer it's a fun ride up the mountain and back. You can also get a shuttle ride into town whenever you want, if you don't want to drive in the ice and snow.

They have an outdoor hot tub, but we didn't get a chance to try it.

Room Tip: Insist on staying in the main building. Reserve a king room, since there are no queen rooms in the m...

Stayed here once before in the Winter, it was amazing. Came back for the summer, the place does not look the same. It looks prettier in the Winter. It is wonderful if you stay in the main building, has a nice fireplace, restaurant, good ambiance. However, do not let them put you in a room outside of the main building, these things looked like old apartments/dorms. Run down, mildew smell. Not worth it. Pay extra for the main building...please....don't ruin your mammoth trip.

Otherwise, great location. Can see the top of mammoth from there.

Room Tip: Get a room in the main building.
