Stop in for maps of the area and suggestions on great places to hike, camp and visit. The center provides campfire permits, wooding permits, and backpacking permits for those looking to begin a trip in the Inyo National Forest backcountry. There are also many fantastic interpretive program opportunities available through the center. A great first stop for a trip to Mammoth. Located on the right side off Hwy 203 going into Mammoth Lakes this visitors center has multiple pieces of free literature to add to your collection. The staff are knowledgeable and modest; keep asking questions, they will have the answers. If looking for a lovely gift within a small budget take a look around as they have a multitue of choices.
I think a great place to start your holiday in this area or if a resident make it a regular place to visit for gift ideas and literature.

The hike to Crystal Lake from Lake George is spectacular. It is a little more than 3miles round trip up a steep slope with many switchbacks. The views from the cliffs along the way are astounding. Best time to go is morning before it gets crowded. We are ages 70 and 75 and we made it. The highest elevation is 9740 feet.
