“One of the largest ski resorts in North America”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

- one of the largest ski resorts in North America, so you can ski for a couple of weeks (as we did) and not get bored
- fairly reliable snow every year
- no crowds on weekdays (unless it's a holiday)
- town of Mammoth Lakes has a supermarket, and plenty of restaurants/bars/ski shops/other businesses
- plenty of lodging choices at different price points
- frequent and convenient ski shuttle bus system
- many non-ski activities available in the winter
- a number of primitive outdoor hot springs in the area (but you have to make friends with the locals to find them)

- mountain can get very windy and cold
- somewhat out of the way as a destination resort
- although it does have its own small airport, if you're going to want a car it is probably cheaper to fly into Reno, rent a car there, and drive the 3 hours to Mammoth
- weekend crowds from Los Angeles (5 hours away) can be terrible
- lift tickets/passes are some of the most expensive in North America (probably because of those same L.A. crowds)

“Very popular and easy to see why”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

Everyone from very young pre-teen mountain bikers to senior citizens can take the chair lift up to the top because the staff instantly aid you if you need help with a bike, if you are elderly, etc. Once at the top, there is a wide range of activities. Those with limited time or energy can just walk out to the monument (honoring 3 ski patrol members who died during a rescue) and talk the easy short walk up to the very top of Mammoth Mountain for a truly breathtaking view. Or, you can hike or bike all the way back down to the main lodge.

“Gondola to top of Mammoth Mountain”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

Don't plan on hiking down. There are much prettier hikes around Mammoth. Just enjoy the view from the top and come back down.

“Can't beat the Mountain”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

We watched the mountain bikers go up and down the mountain from our cabin. There is the bungee jump, the play yard, and the zip line for kids. Watching all this was very entertaining. Nice shop to get supplies and gifts and fun bar with good food and drink.

“A great summer visit for the whole family”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

It is a real "happening" in the summer. Thousands of mt. bikers enjoying the ride from the summit down to the lodge. We took the gondola up to the top, an astounding 11,053 feet above sea level. Views that you would not believe. At the bottom there is bungy jumping, zip line, rock wall climbing for the kids. A place for the whole family in the summer.
