“Was plain old" Gus's"...now something special.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2013 via mobile

We were pleasantly surprised with the extensive remodeling. It was warm and inviting.

Waiter was courteous and friendly.

I had the Chilean sea bass which was excellent. My wife also enjoyed her meal. Pricing was a little high but not obscene.

Would definitely come back. Glad we found a "new" place.

dreichus, thank you for leaving a nice review and we'd also like to thank you for choosing to dine with us. Words cannot describe how thrilled we are in hearing that our restaurant is your new "place"! It's always wonderful to hear back from guests who thoroughly enjoy their experience.

As you mentioned in your review, we did undergo extensive remodeling. In addition to our brand new look, we also adopted a new concept. Since the change, we've received absolutely phenomenal reception from new patrons and regulars from back in our days as Gus's.

We want to thank you for sharing your experience with us and the TripAdvisor community. We truly appreciate when guests take the time out of their day to write a kind review. We hope you realize how much it means and know that this kind gesture doesn't go unnoticed.

If we can ever do anything to accommodate you in a future visit to our location, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're here for you!

Thank you, and we can't wait to see you and your wife back soon! OPA!

“Good neighborhood Greek”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2013

Attractive, well-appointed restaurant, with very friendly staff (though our individual waiter was perhaps a bit too attentive) and family feel. Mossaka was good; crab cakes also good, Spanakopita was excellent, but the saganaki was bland. Can't quite give a fifth star, but I do recommend.

Deejub, we want to thank you for leaving a great review and we'd also like to thank you for dining with us. We are absolutely thrilled to hear that overall, you had a wonderful experience.

From reading over your review, we saw you mentioned some of the various dishes that you enjoyed during your time at Yianni's. We also saw your comments about our saganaki being a bit bland. Our saganaki is one of our signature dishes and typically receives rave reviews. We're definitely concerned that you didn't feel the same. We've passed your comments along to our culinary team and have also private messaged you on here to gather more details.

We want to thank you for sharing your experience with us and the TripAdvisor community. We truly appreciate when patrons take the time out of their day to write a nice review. We hope you realize how much it means and know that this kind gesture doesn't go unnoticed.

“Great grrek food in a great atmosphere!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013 via mobile

our food and service was excellent. My husband had the leg of lamb, and I had a gyro both dishes were well prepared. We ordered the roasted beets as a side dish, but we were disappointed. The beets were canned and tossed with a dressing. I was expecting fresh roasted beets.... there is a difference! I love beets regardless so no worries. Vanilla icecream and baklava for desert..... yum!

Marks1Babe, thank you for your dining with us and we'd also like to thank you for writing a spectacular review. We couldn't be happier to hear that you and your husband enjoyed your experience at our restaurant.

From reading over your review, we saw you commented on our beets. We wanted to let you know that our beets are actually not canned and that they are prepared fresh and roasted in house. We also marinate them in Greek vinegar, olive oil and oregano.

masterlady, thank you for leaving an incredible review and we'd also like to thank you for choosing our restaurant as the location for your Girls' Night Out! We couldn't be happier to hear that everyone had a fabulous time at our restaurant.

We'll be sure to let our culinary team know that they did an excellent job preparing your meals. We're glad to hear that you were able to save room for dessert. All of our dessert offerings are delicious but often times patrons are too full from their main meals to try any of them.

“Good food. Nice restaurant.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2013

We enjoyed our meal at Yianni's. The good things: nice decor - greek isle theme (blue and white) without being tacky - big windows, generally a nice place to spend time. This was an anniversary dinner for us, so it was special. However, while we like good food, we're not particularly into jacket and tie places, so this was a nice compromise there - no need to get all fancied up, but still, most people made an effort - no jeans and flip flops. The food was very nice. Honestly, it wasn't the best Greek food I've tasted, but it was good. We had the fried cheese (served flambe table side) and three dips as appetizers - the spicy feta dip and the creamy garlic dip were extremely tasty and the warm pita was delicious - very good pita. We were pretty full already after just that. But, of course we also had our main courses. Mine was a nice, but not amazing salmon dish. I do not recall what my husband had, but he felt the same - nice, but not really great. For dessert we shared one of the desserts, which was very good.

The thing that slightly took away from the experience was the service. Our waiter was only somewhat attentive and spoke very loudly. I got the feeling he wanted us to think he was amazing, moreso than the food and restaurant, but he tried to make that happen by "impressing us" with his grandeur rather than providing great service. He wasn't awful, mind you, but definitely a point commented on during the evening between the two of us on more than one occasion. Also, the policy seemed to be that our waiter would absolutely not top up our water glasses. Only some junior member of the waitstaff seemed to be doing this. We'd ask our waiter for more water after sitting with drained glasses for quite a while and still wait 10 or 15 minutes longer for water. That is something of a pet peeve of mine. It wasn't all that busy while we were there, either, lest one imagine that the staff were simply overwhelmed. Only about 1/3 of the tables were used at 7:30pm on a Saturday evening.

All in all, I'd go back and have no reservations about recommending the place. It's best for slow, lingering dining. More for adults than kids (although there were a couple of children there).
