“Good food, bad service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2012

We went to the 49er for lunch (at 2 PM). Although the restaurant was half-empty we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated, while a line formed behind us. There was just not enough staff I guess. We were offered ice-water immediately but then the waiting continued: 15 minutes to make an order, and then another 20 minutes to get the food. We were seated with a view on the kitchen and saw our food on the counter of the kitchen but our waiter was no where in sight to pick it up and deliver it to us. I don't know if it was just our waiter that was slow (he wasn't superfriendly either) or if there weren't enough staffmembers around in general but we lost quite some time for a simple lunch. Food was okay though and price-wise it could be worse...

I appreciate you taking the time to post feedback on your dining experience at the Forty Niner Cafe.

Please accept my sincere apologies for less-than-satisfactory levels of food quality and service. The long waits and slow service are certainly not the kinds of things we would like to be remembered for here at the cafe. We occasionally see a higher than usual volume of guests at this location, which can sometimes catch us off guard when we are understaffed. This is no excuse for providing slow service to any guest, however, staffing is still something we are working on perfecting.

I hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip and we hope to see you in the future. If there is anything I can do to make your next trip to Furnace Creek more enjoyable, please don't hesitate to contact me.

“Better than Wrangle Steakhouse”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2012

Food quality was just the same as the steakhouse but much cheaper, and is located right next door. More casual as well. I would definitely recommend giving this a go

“Great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2012

Good food, excellent service, reasonable prices seeing as there is very little choice being stuck in the middle of Death Valley! Choice was good. Water waiter made sure you had plenty of water to drink to stop getting dehydrated.

“Good Food, Long Wait”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2012

We arrived at Furnace Creek looking for a bite to eat. Although there are several places to eat, only certain ones are open during the day. The cafe was crowded, but it didn't take long to find a table. The service is nothing to get excited about, but the food was very good, although expensive. The burger and fries were 12.95, and they automatically include the tip on your bill. Basically speaking, a meal for for with drinks (non-alcoholic) was a little more than $60.00...
