“Expensive but good food, awful service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

We've eaten here several times and our experiences have been similar. The food is pretty good, though quite expensive (but you have to expect that in Death Valley). The service is terrible, not so much because the employees are incompetent, but because there aren't enough of them. Granted, this time we were there during Thanksgiving weekend, so the place was packed. But we arrived around 2 pm -- not exactly at rush hour, and in fact we were too late to order off the regular menu, had to get bar food instead. (Incidentally, we looked at the regular menu posted on the door, and they seem to have reduced it -- not as many good choices.) There was only one clean table, half a dozen dirty ones, and the rest were full. The waitress looked like she was about to collapse from exhaustion, but she was polite and friendly to us. After we finally ate, it took another eon to pay the bill. Each time we come here, I think -- let's not eat here again. But it's very convenient for us, coming up from Ridgecrest, so we keep coming. Maybe someday they'll hire some more staff.

“Take your own booze”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

Unbelievably expensive. Everyone that went there had the same comments. You spend more here than for the room!

“Good food and great selection of ales”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

We ate an evening meal here while staying at Furnace Creek, the food was good quality and the service was fast and efficient. The Saloon offered a good choice of ales.

“Friendly, relaxed place to wind down”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

We went for drinks one evening during our stay at Stovepipe Wells after a long day of walking and driving. The service was friendly, the choice of drinks was very respectable (lots of draft beers), and the prices were reasonable. Lots of wild west, rustic charm.

“Prickly Pear?!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

Prickly Pear is a noxious weed in Australia so I was surprised to see it on the menu. Glad I tried the chicken. Delicious. And a great selection of craft beers. Well priced and ice cold. Good wait staff too.
