Nestled on a quiet street in the Village of the Arts section of Bradenton, not far off the Tamiami Trail (US 41), is this delightful Sicilian restaurant. My friends had the soup of the day and the Sicilian pasta. I had the artichoke tarte which was heavenly -- the perfect union of sweet and salty. I also had the lentil salad which was excellent. It was a great lunch. The food was beautifully presented. My only complaint is that we were not served bread.

Delicious food in a quaint setting. The appetizers, alone, would make a great meal with a bottle of wine. Buon appetite!

Went to this restaurant a week ago and had a great meal in the garden. Took some friends this week and was totally embarrassed and disappointed. The menu remains innovative and interesting but this week we sat inside in cramped quarters, listening to a too loud, not very good guitarist/singer. Food quality and preparation was passable but the service was horrible. Some sort of apology for the obvious shortcomings might have helped but none was offered. Too bad. Love the overall concept but, at least tonight, the execution failed miserably.

Unusual setting in a lesser Bradenton neighborhood. Limited seating, more limited, rather pricey menu. All dishes are authentic Sicilian. That is, they are not what you will find in an "Italian" restaurant. Wine list is very nice and reasonably priced. We were there on a Saturday evening and seating was outdoors only, as weather was great. Outdoor eating area is bordered on two sides by rather seedy housing and overgrown landscaping. Ortega seems to rely on a loyal , local client base. There were four of us, one other table of four, two tables of two and a large party. That filled the entire yard.

Wonderful food, great music, warm and attentive staff. With friends, we had the pate sampler, roasted fennel, grilled lamb, house salad, chicken, swordfish the timballo, and three wonderful desserts. Everything was delicious, with little surprises in the combinations and seasonings. Portions are modest, so you can order several courses and not be over-stuffed! Chef/owner, Gae, is a talented musician, and accompanied an excellent guitarist on harmonica. We went last night so we could do the Art Walk, but stayed at Ortygia so long we had to really hustle! Everything, including the weather, was perfect, and we are even considering the Sicilian trip!
