“The Village is a dismal place with most galleries closed during the week !”
Reviewed November 30, 2011

For most of the year the Village hibernates with shops and galleries closed and very little for visitors to do or see. Once a month on the first Friday and Saturday the Village has its Art Walk but even then not all galleries are open. As a destination for tourist it leaves much to be desired and I would not recommend going there to my friends or family ... especially after dark! The Village could use street lighting and public restroom facilities and, oh yes, it would definitely help if all the shops, studios and galleries were open to accommodate visitors instead of being only open at the convenience of the establishments owner ! I wonder who wrote all the other glowing reviews ... some of the gallery owners whose places are closed most of the time ???
The only positive is that the Village does have a couple of excellent restaurants.

“Cool and quirky”

LOVE Village of the Arts, especially the Friday night art walks. There is a great range of mediums represented. Just check the hours before you go. Many shops don't keep regular hours.

“Felt unsafe; nothing was open.”

We stopped in the neighborhood mid-morning on a Monday and found no one open. The neighborhood looked poor and unkempt. It might have been better on a weekend. . .

“An excellent family attraction. The 1st Friday Art Walks are an enjoyable way to spend the evening.”

Friday nights are excellent as the weather cools down. There are some wonderful local artists with their work on display to view and purchase.
