We stopped in at De Soto National Memorial on a road trip through Florida. The park is designed to teach you the history of the De Soto party's exploration in search of gold. De Soto was a pretty bad guy, but he did put his mark on US history, so it's definitely interesting. They have a good audio-visual program available, a museum, and interpretive/interactive displays on the grounds. The grounds are also really beautiful. The day we arrived it was raining on and off pretty hard, so we were unable to go hiking like we wanted to, but we did explore everything close to the visitor center. The layout is well done and I definitely recommend a visit to this park for National Park buffs or History buffs. You will enjoy it.
