Bottles of wine start at $14 and they have one of the best Stromboli I have ever have. Come here and sit around with a bottle of wine and stay for everything they have to offer

We have been here twice because we love the thin crust pizza. We also love that this is a neighborhood pizzeria and not a chain restaurant :) The wine is a great deal, most bottles are $14. We are up north now but will definitely make Fav's one of our first stops when we return to the area.

I love, love, love Fav's. They make their gnocchi in-house...enough said. (But I'll continue because I can.) The Bradenton Deep Dish is listed as a personal pizza, but I've yet to finish one by myself. It's a great Chicago-style deep dish that will get you addicted in one bite. The specialities are always worth getting--especially anything they make with heavy cream. Don't be in a hurry when you go--homemade takes a little longer than defrosting the frozen stuff you get at Olive Garden, and it is SO worth it.

Old Main Street (really 12th Street) in downtown Bradenton, FL between Manatee Avenue (State Road 64) and the Manatee River has undergone a resurrection of late. There are bars and eateries springing up on the relatively short strip of city blocks like flowers after late spring rains. Although Old Main Street will never challenge Sarasota's Main Street in terms of length, diversity of merchants, and sheer chic, it is becoming a destination for many shoppers.

Before this major transformation took place, there were two venues on this strip that sold food after 2pm. One was Fisherman Joe's (since closed), and the other is the subject of this review; Fav's Cuccina. This is a small pizzeria/restaurant that has been serving downtown Bradenton for 13 years. It is family owned and operated and always a rerliable place to satiate one's hunger pangs.

The eatery is a small one. There are 4 round plastic tables under the covered portico as you enter the restaurant. These will each hold up to 6 diners. Inside there is seating for perhaps another 20 patrons, with four more "two-tops" in the inside hallway of the building in which the restaurant is located. The décor is a cut above the ubiquitous pizzeria red and white check table clothes, but nothing special.

The pizza here is a thin crust rendition that is quite good. A 16" plain cheese pie is $10, Even if you load one up with toppings, it will not be much more than $15, and it beats whatever dreck you can obtain from the national chains (e.g. Pizza Hut, Dominos, Papa John's). The sauce is savory rather than sweet, and the quality of the cheese is very good. The thin crust is excellent tasting. In fact, Michael (the owner) makes the homemade bread served with meals out of the same dough he uses for the pizza crust.

If pizza is not you choice, you can have a variety of options that range from sandwiches such as meatball, sausage, cold cuts, Italian casadillas, etc. to daily specials. Unfortunately, the entrees are only available after 5pm. Not that there is a great deal of them, but the lasagna, sausage and red sauce over homemade fetuccine pasta, baked manicotti, gnocchi, and the traditional American spaghetti and meatballs are all better than average. You can also choose salads as entrees, and note that dinner salads are included with all entrees.

The lasagna is always good here as is the sausage over fettuccine. However, all of the food is quite tasty and will not disappoint you. Michael and his family are originally from Pittsburgh, so there is a northeast bent to the food and pizza. The prices are reasonable. It will be difficult to spend $50 for two at dinner with a bottle of wine (which are $13 each). Portions are generous (if you are really hungry, order a large Stromboli for $7.95), and the quality is enviable.

When my wife and I go to dinner in downtown Bradenton, Fav's is always on our list of places to dine. Before O'Brick,s, Jeanne's, Havana Cabana, etc. opened, Fav's was providing denizens of Old Main Street with very good Italian food served in a casual atmosphere. Stop in and have a Moretti or Peroni Italian beer ($4), or a glass of Italian chianti ($5.75) and enjoy one of Fav's dishes for lunch or dinner. It is always a reliably good stop.

Delicious food, but so well hidden. It took me living here for almost nine years to find this place. Flavorful food.
