Small, romantic and brimming with ambiance is this wonderful eatery in Bradenton, about 4 miles west of Interstate. Personal family business feel with fabulous house speciality-Veal ala Carmen. A great meal for 25 bucks made fresh daily with flowers and white linens .A real treat for a date!
Godd wines by the glass, and a great bar adjoins the quaint and comfortable fine dining area. Dinner for two with four cocktails around 80 bucks.

We decided to try this place because we had received a good recommendation and are always looking for new italian eats! I honestly never knew this shopping center existed, and although somewhat concerned about location, it was an ok area of town. There were a few tables filled when we arrived so we had no wait. We were greeted immediately smiling waitstaff and seated wherever we wanted. Although seated promptly, it seemed to take forever to get drinks and order our food but it was ok. I need to mention-my boyfriend is a salt-a-holic! He salts everything except ice cream. He did not touch the salt shaker the entire meal if that gives you an idea. We ordered bruschetta which we've had many times. Salty beyond being edible! I barely ate my one piece and my boyfriend even made comment to the salt. When he says something it is really oversalted. Salads were ok-nothing special. Bread was delicious. He really liked his veal marsala-don't forget he never touched the saltshaker. I had the baked ravioli. It was ok. Tomato sauce was definitely not the best I've had-salty and kind of pasty consistency but maybe because it was baked. Prices were higher than other places (chain and non-chain) so we will not be returning. There are plenty of other places to eat.

We eat here at least twice a month. Kay and Carmen are wonderful and the food is excellent. If they have them, the two pound main lobster is fantastic as are the shellfish. Very relaxed and homey restaurant complemented by a lively martini bar that is connected to the restaurant.

A trip to Carmens Cafe is always an adventure whether is be during the day or evening. As you walk in the door there is always a smiling waitstaff offering you the best seat in the house.
parking outside is readily available, so important to restaurants everywhere.
We arrived in the evening, ate a magnificent Chicken Cattiatore laced with red Tuscany wine, and proceeded into the Martini Bar, a new addition to the restaurant. Singing and dancing all night long, coctails galore.
We will be back.

Saturday night, no soup avaiable, poor selection of pasta available, certain entrees unavailable. Had been highly recommended, what a disappointment; will NOT be back again!
