As Bluegreen owners we found it difficult to find availability at this resort and once we did reserve a week, were not quite sure what to expect as we knew the resort was older.

We were all pleasantly suprised! Although the resort is older, the accomodations were very comfortable. We had one of the one bedroom units across the street from the main complex on the ground level. The 'condo' was quite large and the furnishings were more than comfortable. The rooms were all very clean. The kitchen was stocked with every type of cooking essential needed including a great blender! Laundy is in the back of this building and takes quarters but that wasn't an issue to us.

The pool and hot tub were both very nice and clean. We enjoyed having our lunch in the covered area by the pool which was also an amazing spot for sunsets. We did use the barbecue pits which was nice. Once a week they also had a 'cocktail' hour where you could purchase bloody mary's for $1.

Everyone was very friendly and often gathered each day near the pool. The lady in the office, Collette ??, was exceptionally helpful and took a lot of time to explain to us where everything was on the island. This island has a free trolley service that continually circles the island and there is a stop very close to the resort.

This is also an amazing stretch of beach!! The water was clear, an amazing shade of blue-green and calm the first couple of days and then when Hurricane Ike brushed by, the surfers came out in droves from all over the US. We found an endless amount of seashells, some of them VERY large.

I can't say that we found a lot of great restaurants. The Rod and Reel and City Pier were good and MarVista may have been our favorite. We didn't try BeachHouse unfortunately. Skinny's was ok but Rotten Ralph's really was rotten :( Dips has some wonderful ice-cream and you can stroll down the pier with it. Jane E's IDA had great coffee and seemed a morning hangout for the locals.

Take my word for it...it's the best beach in the area. We took several day trips to other well known beaches while here and none of them were as beautiful as this stretch. PLEASE...use caution if you go to Venice Beach to look for sharks teeth. You will find them but Venice Beach is also well known for 'hustling', if you can call it that.

Unfortunately, we don't have any photos as a giant hurricane generated wave knocked me down and destroyed my camera and phone!

We liked the Via Roma so much we are going back in two weeks! Look out Hurricane Hanks :)

We have just returned from our vacation in Bradenton Beach, Florida, while staying at the Via Roma Beach Resort. The building is dated as I have read in other reviews, but the rooms themselves were pretty nice! The kitchen had newer appliances, and it was a pretty well stocked kitchen for what we needed. The garbage disposal was so loud that I think it could've easily pulled someone out of a coma, I've never heard one so loud! Scared us after that first time of turning it on, lol. The room had a flat screen TV in the living room and an older TV in the bedroom, but they both had cable, very nice. Plenty of closet space/shelves for everyone's clothing, etc. We went to the beach every morning at 7:30 and found spectacular shells, many sand dollars too! We took a drive to Sanibel Island, and we thought we wasted our gas going there, because we didn't find any good shells to speak of, and every place we went to, we had to pay to visit, and that can get expensive as well. While in Bradenton Beach, we ate twice at Sharky's Restaurant, as it is close enough to walk to. We had appetizers one night, consisting of calamari and shark bites, and the 2nd night we had dinner, and I had the Grouper entree'. Both nights were excellent, every bit of food was awesome, loved it all. Another good place to eat breakfast in town was a restaurant called Peaches. What a cute restaurant, and the food was also very good. On the way back to Tampa the day we were leaving, we stopped at a Bob Evans restaurant for lunch, very good food there, homemade mashed potatoes with my hot turkey sandwich for lunch, very pleased. The only bad part of this trip was renting a car from Avis. We went to Sonic restaurant after just getting to Florida when some guys tell us that we have a very low tire in the front, so I looked at it, and it was almost flat. So we had to wait almost 2 hours to get a new car delivered to us. Not a good way to start a vacation, and I will never use Avis again, especially when they brought us the same exact car, and all 4 pieces of luggage wouldn't even fit in the trunk by the time our trip was over. I hate AVIS!!
