This is a delightful place to stop in the afternoon or on the way home from the office. Central Perc is located In the "Shops of Oakwood" and closes, as the sign says, "at Five-ish."
You are welcomed with the jingle of the bell on the door, tables for tea, greenery, local art, and a bakery counter. Other reviewers cover the tea time special, so I will not. My daughter and I stopped on the way home after I picked her up from college for winter break. It was Friday afternoon and perfect.
We ordered a pot of the house brew and a slice of carrot cake. My daughter did not want her own, so we ordered one slice. It arrived at the table, sliced, on two plates, with a full steaming pot of tea complete with tea cozy, a creamer and sugar bowl.
The carrot cake is locally made (and you will want more!). And of course teacups and saucers are the real deal. Taking one's younger children to tea is a romantic idea, but I would not recommend it here. Leave that notion to the magazines -- we all need a quiet place now and then to enjoy one another's adult company.
When I travel I love to discover (usually by accident) the place where the "locals go;" the place where there is a sense of daily rhythm, a place which holds a sweet confidence that it is indeed part of the community, and well loved.
This is such a place. Enjoy.
