“Across from Starbucks and Across the Pond But Way Better”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2012 via mobile

This is a delightful place to stop in the afternoon or on the way home from the office. Central Perc is located In the "Shops of Oakwood" and closes, as the sign says, "at Five-ish."

You are welcomed with the jingle of the bell on the door, tables for tea, greenery, local art, and a bakery counter. Other reviewers cover the tea time special, so I will not. My daughter and I stopped on the way home after I picked her up from college for winter break. It was Friday afternoon and perfect.

We ordered a pot of the house brew and a slice of carrot cake. My daughter did not want her own, so we ordered one slice. It arrived at the table, sliced, on two plates, with a full steaming pot of tea complete with tea cozy, a creamer and sugar bowl.

The carrot cake is locally made (and you will want more!). And of course teacups and saucers are the real deal. Taking one's younger children to tea is a romantic idea, but I would not recommend it here. Leave that notion to the magazines -- we all need a quiet place now and then to enjoy one another's adult company.

When I travel I love to discover (usually by accident) the place where the "locals go;" the place where there is a sense of daily rhythm, a place which holds a sweet confidence that it is indeed part of the community, and well loved.

This is such a place. Enjoy.

“A little bit of England in Ohio”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2012

Central Perc is a British Tearoom in Dayton Ohio. The owners (who serve as chef and waiter as well) are from England so they know how to do it. They have pastries, beverages, and a lunch menu (no dinner service) that are wonderful. But my favorite is the traditional afternoon tea served Monday through Saturday 2-4 PM. For one price you are serve a 3-tier tray of goodies. The bottom place is filled with small sandwiches such as ham, tuna, egg salad, or cheese. The top 2 tiers have scones with jam and clotted cream as well as pastries such as mille fleur. This is a complete meal - so complete that you will not need dinner that day. Included is a pot (with tea cozy) of your selection of tea. The service is wonderful, the food delightful. This is not a fancy place, but most tearooms in England are not fancy. This is a place just like the ones I went to in Great Britain.

“Afternoon tea to die for!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2011

My son, daughter in law and I stopped in to enjoy afternoon tea here. What a spread! Pickle sandwiches, scones with whipped cream and jam, sponge cake and a Manchester tart which may be one of the best things I've ever eaten! Not inexpensive, but worth the splurge. I look forward to another visit soon.
