If you want a quick snap shot of Dayton, Ohio in a nice park setting this is definitely the place. It is a real double treat if you can catch the Dayton Philharmonic performing at the park like on July 4th.

The main museum has an interesting display of NCR cash registers. Anyone over 50 who ever worked in a retail store will definitely enjoy it. Younger people will also find it interesting. The carousel is fun for the children. There are about 30 other buildings, each with it's own unique history. One of the highlights is a plane of the Wright Brothers. We loved the reasonably priced souvenirs, as well.

This historic site "out-Disneys" Disney in regard to its animated displays. WOW! Surprises and new information await you as you turn each corner within the Kettering Museum and just wait until you see the very special, very unique Carousel created elsewhere in Ohio to commemorate and bring to life the history of the Dayton area. For just $1.00 you can ride "round-and-round" on the merry-go-round ... do NOT miss that opportunity! The restaurant is interesting and offers a wide variety of foods for meals OR snacks.

I couldn't remember the last time I have been here so I decided to take my gf & her daughter here. We had a blast. The bell tower when we arrived went off as soon as we got there so it had to be a sign. As we went outside to see some of the historic things, I was surprised how much I didn't remember. The old school house was neat to walk into & loved the smiles coming from the 4 yr old. It was just like she was a student. Learning all about Dayton's history & the people that started it, made me appreciate it alot more. Between the Wright bros & all the things that started right here made it a great learning expierience there's a theater, trains, old buildings, aviation, & a carousel for enjoyment. A great family adventure.

Carillon plays several roles as a park. Ordinarily it's a history museum with compelling displays. On occasion, it turns into a venue for various festivals. And it contains a noted dining spot, Culp's Cafe. Here, I'll deal with the park itself.

Simply, this is what a local historical park should be. Enter the visitor's center and you encounter excellent displays that orient you to Dayton history efficiently and accurately. Then work your way through the grounds and enter several historical Dayton buildings--some original ones moved into the park and renovated, some re-created. You'll see authentic 19th-century homes, taverns, schoolhouses. There's an extensive display of the history of printing, some nice early automobiles, a fabulous exhibit of rail transportation (including a renovated inter-urban), antique Huffy bicycles. On occasion, there is a miniature train ride for the kids. And there's a re-creation of the Wright "B" Flyer, the first truly functional guided heavier-than-air vehicle.

Highly recommended for anyone who wants to spend some time in pleasurable education!
