“Great museum!”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

It's free so that is a wonderful plus! All members of a family will find something that enjoy here. It does involve a lot of walking this place is huge and they are going to be expanding it again soon. For a fee you can go on Air Force One. They also have where you can leave a donation to help with upkeep. A must!

“Beats the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum hands down.”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

The museum is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. The museum is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
It's free, really free admission!!!!!!! Free parking.

Go to the website: www.nationalmuseum.af.mil

The U.S. Air Force takes great pride in this museum as it is contiguous with Wright-Patterson AFB, but is completely accessible to the public. The venue is incredible compared to the land-locked Smithsonian. You can run through the whole place in three hours but if you aren't ready for a full marathon's exhaustion, plan a full day or more and repeat visits amaze every time.
You go all the way through aviation history in chronological order. Name any U.S. Air Force/ Army Air Corps aircraft and it is there plus many more. From Dayton natives, the Wright Brothers (National Park that is just East on Springfield Street overlooks their Huffman Prairie test grounds and flight school after they succeeded in their first flight) to NASA's Apollo capsule to present.
Go online and go early to see the presidential exhibit (all of the retired Air Force One's, Like Pres. Roosevelt's with the elevator for his wheel chair, like Pres. Kennedy's with the cut-outs made to carry his body back from Dallas). You board and walk through them!
The famous Bockscar B-29 that ended the WWII war in the Pacific by dropping "fat man" on Nagasaki is something to see that makes you take great pause.
Kids are thrilled with the gift shop that has great plane models, posters, space food, bomber jackets, etc..., etc... at fair prices. The cafe will not let you go hungry. There is even an IMAX theatre that blows your mind for an admission fee.
The area of the Mall at Fairfield Commons (adjacent to Wright State University) at I-675 and Fairfield Road (Beavercreek, Ohio) is a very nice place to stay and only 2 or three miles from the museum straight down Col. Glenn Highway.
This is a guaranteed success for any trip, vacation with the family or in town for business.
I have been here dozens of times and it gets better every time.
Great job US Air Force and friends!

“Has to be the top aviation museum in the world”
Reviewed April 16, 2014

The National Museum of the U.S. Air Force is world-class in both scale and content. Anyone who likes aviation, airplanes, the military, history, or museums in general will not be disappointed. I think it's even better than the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. The aircraft on display range from the Wright Brother's era to Stealth fighters. You can't beat this free museum on a rainy day or when it's 100 degrees out. If you stop to read all the displays, will take you all day. The last time we went was for a special movie series at the IMAX when they were showing Top Gun done in 3-D, was pretty amazing.
