Description: Jay's Seafood Restaurant has been family owned and operated for 41 years. Specializing in fresh seafood, steaks and fine wine at reasonable prices. Our story is rich in history. During the period ranging into the late 1800's, Dayton was one of the leading areas in the nation for flour milling. One of these mills, located on the Miami Erie Canal, was known as the Joseph Kratochwill Dayton Corn and Grist Mill. This building was constructed in the 1850's. Ladies and Gentlemen, tonight you are dining in the former Dayton Corn and Grist Mill.. In 1882, James Jacob Ritty opened the Pony House Restaurant. He commissioned wood carvers from Barney and Smith Car Works to turn 5,400 pounds of Honduras Mahogany into a bar. The fruit of their labors is the bar you now see standing in Jay's. Join us seven nights a week for a great dining experience

I hidden gem in Dayton, I have been several times and have greatly enjoyed my food each time. The atmosphere is cozy, and the wait on Sunday evenings is not long. Everything we have had has been delicious!

Our party of 6 enjoyed an excellent meal here on a very busy Saturday night. The walleye special with morel mushrooms was outstanding, as was the service. The only negative was how close our table was to others. The place was packed yet the service remained noteworthy. All of the good parts made for a great time. Highly recommended.

The Caesar salad was bland (and costs extra). Some of the seafood on the Fisherman's Platter was great-the fried oysters. But the catch of the day tasted absolutely like mush. It had obviously been frozen and thawed more than once. Other places in town have much fresher seafood including the Oakwood Club, C'est Tout and Meadowlark. I will never go to Jay's again. It used to be one of our go to restaurants.

Two of us for dinner - one had Monk Fish, I had Salmon on a Cedar plank. Both were excellent. So was the service. The wine list is very, very good - with several great and fair priced wines by the glass. Great menu with wide choices. Beautiful, turn of the century type dining area and bar.

1st time herea relative took us, the place is cool. it has old style charm, original dark hand carved south american wood, and various seating areas. the bar is big, and so are the drinks! we obviously had seafood - shrimp cocktail, oysters on the half shell, ahi tuna, swordfish, and scallops at our table. everything was cooked to perfection, hot bread and butter, and all side dishes were great also. highly recommended place for seafood in the dayton area, love it!
