The breakfast was adequate but no coffee available before or after breakfast period. Neither outside door had operable card reader and Vandalia police came in that evening and found the side door closest to lobby unlocked and lock jammed so it could be opened from outside without the card key. The door was locked thereafter. I always travel armed but did not leave my wife there alone while I went to get takeout dinner, and the side door situation could have been bad news if a thug had happened to try the door and found it unsecured. This hotel is very hard to find since the address description my wife found online had Poe but did not contain Wyse so the GPS took us a few miles south. I was a contractor a few years ago and stayed Travel Lodge fairly regularly different parts of USA and always felt it was an excellent value for the cost. We also stayed at Travel Lodge at Wilkes Barre, Pa. It was slightly more expensive but had a wonderful breakfast and was still an excellent place to stay and I definitely will stay there again if the opportunity happens.

How and why are the hotel motel industries allow these hotels to remain open with staff that only care about money instead of customer service of there guest. Recently I stayed at your hotel and it was terrible. The room smelled of marijuana, with hair in the sink, tub, and in the bed. The room television would not work properly with fuzz on every channel after every five to ten minutes. Room was a smoking room with terrible filthy curtains hanging which appeared had been there from 1999 and it was just an overall terrible stay with before leaving I asked the staff to ask you to give me a call as soon as possible. It has been several days and not a phone call or email. Room did not even have a ash tray and terrible carpet on the floor with stains.

Cleanliness: room was clean, hallway smelled a little musty
Location: poorly marked strange looking building a couple miles from I75 exit, yet right next to the highway. The building is freshly painted and looks ok but is attached to another hotel and is eerily empty. Some gps may become confused although Google maps has it.
Rooms: I was pleasantly surprised by the room which was decent sized with a comfortable bed and good shower pressure and temp.
Service: the ownership people were almost hostile looking like we had ruined their day by coming to their hidden empty hotel. Very odd. A sign in the breakfast room said that if we left the cave I mean room that we would be charged $3 for each breakfast item found. This was peculiar considering the whole breakfast spread was worth slighty under $3.
Value: very good, the rates are dirt cheap. And any breakfast is actually a plus for that rate.
Overall: it is fine and is certainly better than ABV Inn down the road for the same price. Just be prepared for a bizarre stay and some interesting neighbors. The few people that were there were well........ interesting
