Owner description: Local growers, bakers, culinary specialists, and artisans fill this charming historic freight house. Reminiscent of European markets, it's alive with vendors, people and activity during market hours year-round.

I love browsing around the market! There is a lot to see and taste. Blue Jacket Dairy has great samples including their grilling cheese! Yum! I have taken many out of town guests here and they all have loved it. Very unique gifts to take home. They also sell flowers. It feels like you should be in a bigger city than Dayton. I will say parking can be challenging if you go during prime time.

This market is worth a visit, especially if you have not been for a while.

Vendors really do have quality goods, and interesting food.

Worth a visit.

The 2nd Street Market is a favorite location for many Daytonians, not only for food but also for speciality merchandise and excellent groceries. There is a degree of turnover for the merchants, but some things can be counted on.

If you're looking for a lunch or brunch on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday (their only days of operation), you will almost certainly find what you like. Some of my favorite food vendors are Baan Thai Noi, which offers some vegetarian Thai options, Arepas and Co. for good Hispanic, and Caffeine for the obvious. Some of the grocers also offer prepared foods, and Kolb's Specialty Bakery gets a special mention for their cabbage rolls here--though they're only open on Saturdays.

Saturdays are the days when the entire market comes to life. There are many grocers--you'll find Amish cheeses, frozen meats including rabbit, salsas and lots and lots of produce. Some produce sellers offer a mix of self-grown and factory-farmed veggies and fruits; I'm fondest of Hungry Toad Farm, a certified organic grower where only their own produce and flowers and eggs are offered. You can also get honey varieties from the beekeepers of Honey for Sale. Note that many of the grocers only sell here during the growing season.

You can also find vendors here dealing in apparel, wines, custom-made healthy pet snacks, pottery, custom-made soap, and arts and crafts of various sorts.

On Saturdays, there is usually some form of live entertainment.

The only complaint I might voice is that the place gets crowded. If you arrive at peak times on Saturday, you may not find a table at which to eat your brunch. At times the narrow aisle in the building goes into gridlock. Happily, the lines at even the busiest vendors move briskly and there's never too awful of a wait--once you get there.

This venue is definitely worth a visit from any out-of-towner who wants something out of the ordinary. I don't have to encourage the locals--most of them already know.

This is a great market to go to. You will find local vendors and products here. Lots of produce, farmers market style. There are many places to pick up breakfast, lunch or snacks here and plenty of tables. The only downside is that the row is not very wide. Space is at a premium and it gets very crowded on Saturday mornings. But it's great so many people are coming to support local eateries and businesses. There is a little bit of everything here, from pottery to produce and meats, breads, candles and crafts, outdoor items, handmade and more. Great place to visit, you never know what you will find.
