“Doesn't quite measure up”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2012

As part of Marriott's Honored Guest program, we have stayed in numerous Marriott's around the globe and found them to deliver quality and go the extra mile. This hotel did not quite live up to that standard. There was a very nice welcome in the lobby -- cookies, lemonade and coffee -- the day we arrived for freshman move-in day for University of Dayton. It would have been especially nice if that effort was sustained through the following day when forlorn and exhausted parents returned to the hotel after having moved in their children. The bed was surprisingly not comfortable and we thought the TV was on the small side for this level of hotel. The room was also fairly small and the cot provided was a tight fit. The employees were helpful and friendly as is always the case with this brand. All in all, we have found that the Courtyard located about a mile away offers a better experience for the money in this location.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a group which had assembled for a wedding, so we got a good rate and I shouldn't complain, however, there are a few thinbgs which one should be aware of when staying here.

The pluses include a neat indoor-outdoor pool and a generally clean and decently-appointed hotel, as are all Marriotts (although I have stayed at much more impressive ones). Very good parking, convenieent location to University and Dayton Historical Park.

Things to be wary of: We were placed on the first floor (the rest of the group was on 4 or 6), I guess because we had a dog. It was convenient to slip out the side door with him, but it was also: 1.) near a parking lot which was nopisy, due to the bar by the pool, for muchy of the night and 2.) it was also near an elevator bank, at which folks gahered all night and did not lower their voices. 3.) It was a lonnnng way from the lobby. 3.) Housekeeping never reached us the next day - I guess they start on the top floor...the maid yuelled down to us at about 4 PM, did we need anything in the room? We actually really did because 4.) there were small sugar ants everywhere which had evidently come in the sliding door which of course fronted the ground, being on the ground floor. The ants attacked the dog's kibble and the wastebasket (which didn't even have any garbage in it). Not pleasant.

My fiancee went to the lobby about 2AM on Saturday night and he said it was like a war zone - drunks from some party - and very little staff was about.

Also, the web site shows a gift shop and evidently a Hertz rental counter neither of which are there now (the Dayton tourist book also shows these). The girl at the counter said "We really need to change those books". Think so?

Not a bad place by any means, but stay off the first floor!

Room Tip: I reiterate: Stay off the first floor!

This is my second stay here. After the first I asked our coordinator if there was anywhere nicer, but there really isn't in this little town. There is an outdoor pool and bar in nice weather, rooms are clean and ample parking. It's just okay, but this is just a glorified college town.

This property has one of the best gyms that I have seen in all the full service Marriotts I've stayed at. It is next to the University of Dayton so a lot of traffic from conference attendees from UD. There are a number of local and chain restaurants about 1/2 mile from the property. The staff is excellent.

For those who have access to the concierge lounge, the lounge has a lot of seating.

A very good hotel conveniently located near the University of Dayton and close to the interstate. There are not restaurants within walking distance, but the hotel restaurant serves fairly good food, and I ate there several times during 4 days of business. All of the staff I encountered during that time were pleasant and well trained. Highly recommended.

This hotel is a little older but it still is in good shape. The pool area is very nice and the staff is friendly. Good hotel for the price. Only complaint is that the bathroom drain did not drain at all.

We stayed for three days and two nights. The hotel is very large but friendly staff work there. The rooms were large and clean. The pool was inside and outside with a large area for sunbathing. Exercise room was great with a locker room. Modern decor with lots of extras. The staff recommended local attractions that were great.

Room Tip: Rooms with views of the river are very relaxing, rooms with views of the park are pleasant.
