For those of a technical bent, the story behind developing and operating the first Liquid Sodium/Potassium cooled Breeder Reactor was very interesting and informative. Unfortunately this techology never became commercialized due to concerns about converting Uranium into Plutonium (Terrorists would love to get there hands on the latter!), and engineering problems dealing wih liquid sodium/potassium coolant (creates a big explosion in the presence of water). By far, the oddest thing to see is a pair of nuclear reactors which were designed to power a very large bomber aircraft keeping it aloft for weeks at a time. The program was cancelled in the early 60s due mainly to the inability to provide adequate radiation shielding for the crew.
