We were headed north from Charleston, saw this park on the map and detoured to see it. The weather - drizzle to light rain - was not ideal, but we still were able to enjoy the visitor center exhibits and informational film and take a nice walk on the boardwalk. It’s very peaceful here, and the boardwalk is an easy walk at any age. I’d like to come back on a dry day.

We visited Congaree National Park on our way to Charleston. We stopped by the day after Christmas, and the area had had a ton of rain the days prior. However, when we called to make sure they were open, they told us it was sunny and we could still enjoy parts of the boardwalk trail. There was no entry fee, although we were prepared with our National Parks pass. The park ranger told us that part of the board walk trail was underwater, but that we could still enjoy the trail up until that point. We walked all the way to the river overlook, enjoying the views. It was a nice and sunny day--never have quite seen terrain like it! There were not a lot of people out, so it was quiet and peaceful for the most part. Although we did encounter some families with young children who were just flat out yelling to one another. "I visit national parks to listen to loud people"--said no one ever. I don't mean to be rude, but come on. We enjoyed our brief visit nonetheless, and it was the perfect place to get out and stretch our legs. I cannot imagine what the mosquitoes are like in the warmer weather, and appreciated the "skeeter meter" above the bathrooms. Congaree is worth a quick stop!

Wow......was absolutely thrilled to be driving from Columbia to this park....as we got closer though I was saddened and amazed at the amount of garbage/trash alongside the roads. Mile after Mile was disgustingly littered with bottles....plastic bags and non descript garbage.....it looked like we were on third world roads heading to a shanty or slum town. The people who live around that area should be ashamed of themselves.....to be graced by a national park and treat the roads leading to it like a FILTHY dump......we won't be going back anytime soon........SHAMEFUL.....DIRTY

We were here last week and it was raining. We did the 2.4 mile boardwalk trail and it was beautiful. It must be absolutely gorgeous in spring and summer. Even if you just do this boardwalk trail which takes about an hour - it’s totally worth it.

We are so glad we made it a point to stop here on our way to North Carolina. This place was really beautiful. We stayed on the boardwalk and did the whole loop which was a very nice walk. The sounds of the trees was very relaxing and the lake view was spectacular. I highly recommend reading the the background info at each stop (there are 20 along the boardwalk). It will really enrich the experience and add context to everything.
