I've looked at this hotel several times when planning a trip, but passed it by mainly because it was priced considerably higher than most LQ's. When I found myself in need of a course correction from Idaho Falls because of the Wyoming blizzard in October 2013, I cancelled my reservation at Fort Collins, CO and settled on the Grand Junction, CO area as a suitable alternative. The Grand Junction LQ was sold out, so I thought I would give the Fruita, CO inn a shot. I wanted to use points so as to avoid the $149 rate, but I found that LQ allows their inns to not accept points at their discretion. Something you LQ points people should be aware of. Anyway, I reserved a room and confirmed it with the hotel, and was told that I got the last room available.
When I checked in, the front desk guy told me to be careful of the back door lock since it was finicky. The staff was very friendly, and helpful. They could be easily found by going out the front door where they seemed to spend a lot of time smoking.
For $149 at LQ Fruita, CO I got two queen beds that I could tell were way past their expiration date just by looking at them. They sagged visibly and when I lay on them the squeaked just like the beds of my childhood.
The towels were flat and looked like they had been laundered at least a hundred times.
I could easily hear the kids next door bouncing around.
The shower head wasn't connected to the wall properly, and wouldn't stay in one place.
The television had hundreds of channels, but no guide. I searched for about 30 minutes and still couldn't find the weather channel. I did find CNN and watched 20 commercials in 10 minutes and turned it off.
Breakfast was standard LQ fair. The only upgrade at this $149 LQ was frozen Egg McMuffins that could be microwaved. They bite I took tasted OK, cholesterol and all. The dogs seemed to really like them.
The high point of the stay was the vacant field next to the hotel where the dogs enjoyed a good romp.
If you have the choice of staying in your car during a blizzard or staying at this hotel, stay at the hotel. Otherwise, make another choice.
