Review of Colonial Parkway

Drove from Yorktown to Jamestown and then to Williamsburg. Drive it slowly and savour the atmosphere, Stop at some vantage points to enjoy the scenery and read the history. Glad I did it before the Federal shutdown!

We found ourselves often diverting to Colonial Drive to enjoy the Colonial triangle.

Several National Parks are closed, and folks are very unhappy.

This is the best way to get to Yorktown from Williamsburg. It's a 23-mile toll-free 3-lane roadway, and a National Scenic Byway with no traffic lane lines. The speed limit is 45 mph and the center lane is used for passing at certain points designated by signs. Don't speed as the National Park Service law enforcement rangers will pull you over.

I enjoyed the way the road felt while driving on it. It's also 1 of only 30 All-American Roads in the entire country. If you're in the Historic Triangle area, this is a must drive both for its convenience and beauty.

My 16 year old son and I recently drove the Colonial Parkway as we spent a day touring Virginia's Historic Triangle. We started our tour at Colonial Yorktown and the historic battlefields that morning, which included walking and driving tours. Upon completing our tour of Yorktown, we started our drive along the Colonial Parkway. This is a beautiful, scenic 23 mile drive across the Virginia peninsula. It links Yorktown on the east bank along the York River and proceeds through Colonial Williamsburg and on to Jamestowne on the west bank along the James River. There are numerous historical sights along this drive and much beauty, as you drive through country settings and wooded areas. I found it to be a very peaceful drive and my son enjoyed it. There are scenic stops along this route with informational signs, and you can do self-guided walking tours. I saw people fishing along this route too. We drove through Colonial Williamsburg and on to Historic Jamestowne. If you ever visit the Historic Triangle, this drive has to be part of the experience.

We enjoyed the tour of historical sites on the parkway, particularly the surviving embankment and the farmhouse with the peace was negotiated.
