Nice location along the water and in the heart of the Yorktown tourist area. This is an older property that gives the feeling of the 1950's era. I liked being in walking distance to the Yorktowne Pub which is a few steps away...great Pub food and fare without having to drive!

We found the Duke of York very comfortable and extremely reasonable as we had weekly rates. We weren't looking for a fancy place, but the room was attractive and we would not hesitate to stay there again. The only thing I found inconven ient was the ironing board which was a table top variety. Even one which could be hung from the bathroom door would have been better. The staff, especially the cleaning help, was very polite, helpful and friendly.

Quiet, relaxing, like a scene from the 50's. Little beach accross the way, but southern charm and wonderfully clean rooms. One of the most adorable settings is the chairs right outside your room. You can sit and either watch the water or the lights on the bridge. The Yorktown pub is a short stroll away and we had a great dinner there. Once you except that this isn't a Hyatt or a Marriott and ENJOY it for what it is--cute, quaint and off the beaten path--you will love your stay here--and breakfast at their hotel was wonderful! Overall--a pleasant experience.

My husband and I travel to the Williamsburg area each year and used to enjoy staying at the Duke of York. However, starting last year, we've found new lodgings. For the price they charge, you can find cleaner, nicer, and newer rooms with better amenities right in the area. Also the staff tends to be clueless and sometimes rude. We wanted a small refrigerator in our room and were willing to pay extra for it. However, the desk clerk could not guarentee that we would receive it, saying only maybe. A straight foward yes or no would have been nice. For only $10 more a night we rented a lovely 4 room guest cottage with a full kitchen and washer and dryer right in the heart of historic Yorktown.

My husband and I always stay at the Duke of York when in that area...usually 1 or 2 times a year. They are the best kept secret.
