I love Marriots and stay in them often, but this hotel was a major letdown. It was rundown (handle falling off endtable, rust in bathroom), and our room was not very clean (lipstick on jacuzzi and dirt footprints on bathroom floor). We payed way too much...$189 before taxes. Breakfast is a $9 buffet, so we didn't even bother and went to a nice cafe instead. Nothing impressive. Not nice at all. This is what I'd expect from a cheap hotel. Will never stay at this location again. If you're paying for a nice hotel, go somewhere else.

I usuallly stay at this hotel when visiting our head office on business. Although it seems to have got more expensive in recent times, it is very clean and modern, with all of the facilities you might need on a business trip. There are two restaurants effectively on-site, a Ruby Tuesdays for regular fare, plus a new Texas Road house, where you are positively encouraged to throw peanut shells on the floor!

I used to stay at the Courtyard in the Hampton Coliseum area, but I'm afraid that area has gone slightly downhill in recent years so I now favour this one. Other good alternatives for business are the Hampton Inn & Suites and the newly opened Best Western right by Patrick Henry Mall.

I must begin by stating that the "but" in my title could be very subjective to some.
Positives: great location, lots of restaurant choices within walking and short drviing distances. great location for all the local tourist attractions. quiet hotel. very clean: including gounds, lobby, rooms, linens, furniture etc etc. friendly and knowledgable staff. good valkue for the price.
Negatives: no continental breakfast, buffet provided is just OK, choices are few but tasty. Price seems a bit high but the discount for smaller children is good. There are nearby fast food places to suffice a quick or inexpensive breakfast. But the biggest negative is the pool area. While it is clean and large enough with a nice hot tub I feel it is quite unsafe due to the fact that there are insufficient drains in the surrounding floors and the tile materail used is extremely slippery. We had several small children with us who were slipping and falling. Even when we walked with them after seeing their troubles, the floor was still very suspect and we even had to tread carefully. I think this is serious enough to warrant some concern. While kids should always be watched at a pool, and you should always tread lightly in wet areas, parents must be extra careful here, even with older kids. And adults too shouldnt think they are immune as well. Overall a great place to stay, just be careful !!!

Hotel & staff were excellent. King room, pool area, bathrooms, & lobby were clean & new. This hotel does not offer a free continental breakfast, but rather a $8.95 breakfast buffet. It's expensive, but tasty.
Husband & I stayed here & did the whole Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown & Busch Gardens deal. Roughly 15 minute highway drive to those locations. We didn't mind as the hotel was out of the tourist stream, so the location was perfect.
This hotel is near several restaurants including the Texas Road House, 2nd St Grill, Uno's Pizza, & a few fast food places.
We'd come back & stay at this location anytime.
Oh, and I don't think that the photos TripAdviors list are of this particular hotel. This hotel is nicer than what is shown.

The courtyard is a good place to stay. The accomodations were neat and clean and the location is ideal for travelling around the Tidewater region. Everyone was friendly and helpful, I especially liked the two laptops set up in the lobby. My only complaint is the buffet which was just an upgraded continental breakfast was way to expensive for the items provided. I would recommend this hotel but stay away from the breakfast buffet, there are plenty of other restaurants to get breakfast from that are much cheaper in the area.

I have stayed here numerous time on business during the last few years and love this well kept comfortable hotel. An indoor pool and a friendly staff, and lots of stores, restaurants, etc. close by. You can actually order from the Ruby Tuesday reataurant adjacent to the property and they will deliver to the room and allow you to charge it to your hotel bill. Staying over Thanksgiving the gals at the front desk gave me a room upgrade and were very friendly and helpful.

We recently stayed at the Newport News Courtyard Marriott for a trip to Williamsburg. It was close to Busch Gardens and Colonial Williamsburg (approx. 15 minutes), but far enough away to be away from the crowds. The room had a refrigerator, freezer, microwave, and coffee maker, which was very convenient for leftovers. There were many moderately priced restaurants in the area, as well as a super Walmart and KMart which was great to get needed supplies like rain ponchos, bottle water, snacks, etc. The Courtyard also offers a breakfast free of charge which included the usual yogurt, fruit, cold cereals, bagels, danish, and a make your own waffle station. The hotel was very clean and quiet, set off in a residential area off the main road. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. The rate was also reasonable compared to other properties in the area. We booked off the Marriott website and got a special weekend rate!
