“Interesting place”
Reviewed November 6, 2013 via mobile

My parents grew up in another country and were fascinating about the history and the setting they have at this place. It is a small center compares to Jamestown but one can easily spent hours looking at the display and asking questions. People work there are really nice and patiently explain the history and life at the time and demonstrate the tools. Originally I thought we would only spend an hour top to browse through the display but we were so curious about how things were done at the settlement and asked for demonstration which were gladly accepted. We really enjoy our time spent here. Afterward we went to Yorktown which is only 10 min down the road and found out they have free bus ride which will stop by several historic sites and interesting places around the small town as well as the victory center. It was a nice day trip for my old parents on a very nice fall day.

“US Freedom Birthplace”
Reviewed October 27, 2013

Following our trip to the Yorktown Battlefield we visited the reconstructed Yorktown village. The exhibit is divided into 3 areas to show how the people lived, their interaction with the native indians, and a typical farm and garden. The museum leads you through a chronological sequence of how the village was created and its leaders on to the ultimate confrontation with the British troops and ultimate victory. We also enjoyed visiting the dock and touring the ships. To visit all the areas in Yorktown we recommend 2 days.

“Worth the trip”

We really enjoyed the encampment. Staff was well versed and knowledgeable. Museum was nice. The area with the homes was very disappointing. Only the kitchen was staffed.

“Impressive”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

Missed Yorktown Day by one day, but still got a chance to see several of the military demonstrations on Sunday. Museum display was very well done and the tour of the typical encampment -- complete with camp kitchen was fun and funny (with the kids in the role of new recruits responding to commands on the drum). It is a beautiful little town, too.

“The staff made the difference”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

We visited on a rainy day and didn't really know what to expect. The museum is just alright but the staff, especially at the encampment, really took time to explain the exhibits and answer our questions. That really made the difference and helped us to enjoy and appreciate our time in Yorktown. I would recommend this trip for couples and families.
