Big Tex BBQ is not the type of restaurant a vegetarian selects as a first choice for lunch. But, I was with girlfriends and they wanted to eat here. So I did! The only meat-free option on the menu, unless I wanted a baked potato or a side salad, was the child's plate of a grilled cheese sandwich and french fries. Actually, quite a bargain at $4.75. The bread was a yummy home made roll and the french fries were an adult size serving. The rail car, which was a real train dining car, is quite cute. My pals had the hamburger and the turkey sandwich, which they both said was good.

My daughter had a steak cooked to her liking. I had half a rack of BBQ ribs which were dry and not very tasty. Prices were average. I liked the idea of eating in a railway car. Very quaint.

Fun for kids to eat in a train. Close to all activities one would do in Willcox. Great onion rings you won't forget and Raspberry tea is the best we have tasted. Quaint decorations that could be updated. Nice family runs the place and are friendly and accomodating. Nice big room for meetings or special ocassions. Decor needs work but menu is great.

I have eaten at the Big Tex before, as I frequent Willcox often. I wanted to post here to TripAdvisor to really underscore that the Big Tex is a unique dining experience, and the folks here really go out of their way to 'up' the quality of the barbecue. All their meats are slow smoked on real, Arizona mesquite outside - good grief, you can smell the roasting meat waft up into the air, which fills the entire downtown area with the sweet aroma of desert mesquite and smoking meat. I had a bone-in ribeye here that was just plain completely awesome. It was cooked to perfection, nicely spiced and had incredible flavor. The cut of meat was large, well-marbled and got a nice sear on the outside without marring the delicate and complex flavors of the beef. The fixins here are average, so don't expect much. And, the interior decor is pretty lowball, and the dining tables, chairs, etc. are all on the cheap. But, they've taken the time to nurture some beautiful roses outside, and the downtown area of Willcox is a unique place with a lot of new wineries and wine tasting rooms, and Big Tex fits right in. So, if you're looking for an incredible cut of meat or some slow-smoked brisket, ribs or chicken made by hand with a lot of care, then don't let the exterior shabby look of the Big Tex dissuade you from going in - the food inside is absolutely wonderful, and I highly recommend eating here.

Ordered the rib eye dinner. The steak was cooked to perfection and a decent sized serving. It came with a baked potato and side salad. The only options for the potato were butter and sour cream and the sour cream came in a portioned paper tube. I had blue cheese on my salad which came with real blue cheese crumbles and good greens, not your run of the mill iceberg or romaine. Also had the jalapeno bottle caps which packed a nice pop. Service was ok. The location is an old railroad car which is appropriate but not very well appointed once inside to say the least.I still give this place a decent rating because the steak was really good, and I have been craving a good steak for a long time! Not bad for the middle of nowhere.
