If you are passing through this way you must visit the visitor centre. It is very new and well looked after. We stopped for breakfast in the parking lot and enjoyed the sunrise and wonderful views around Chimney rock

“Excellent presentation of a famous historic landmark”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2012

The Chimney Rock National Historic Site provides a reasonably comprehensive but engaging and easily absorbed presentation of Chimney Rock and its significance to the arduous westward migration of emigrants to the US in the 19th century. Well worth a couple of hours; bring a picnic lunch if the weather permits.

“Worth the time to visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2012

The "Chimney" is visible from quite a distance and we understood how the pioneers would feel hopeful seeing it. The visitor center (small admission charge) was great and there is a quick informative video, too.

“A beautiful outcropping of rock.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2012

You aren't going to find this on your main highways. You have to look for it, or be going to visit somebody that lives near it. That's how I found it. My niece and her family live next to it. You can see it from their yard. We went up close and it's impressive. There are lots of bluffs near it on highway 71 also. If you're ever in southwest Nebraska, check it out! I was just there and it snowed both November 5th and 6th and it's very pretty covered in snow.

“Excellent vistiors' center”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2012

The visitiors center explains the importance of this landmark to travelers and has numerous artists' depiction of it over the years. The patio has a great view of the rock. Nice gift shop.
