“Feels authentic”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

We were looking for a good margarita, wasn't overly impressed. The restaurant is crowded, and has that old authentic feel. Food was ok, service was very good. Not sure I will go back.

“Elvis paintings & killer tacos!”
Reviewed April 26, 2012

We only made it to El Rey because of the recommendation of someone who lived in Ventura. It looks like a lot of other bars when you walk in. Dark lighting and simple bench/table seating. Oh yeah, except for awesome black velvet Elvis paintings and plenty of bras hanging from the chandeliers! Their drinks menu is extensive and had I not been pregnant, would have had a hard time deciding! I had a virgin pineapple concoction our server suggested and it totally hit the spot. Their fresh, homemade guac and tortillas was so, so, SO good. I could eat that and only that for the rest of my life. The tacos were unbelievably good too. Simple, small and authentic. I loved that you could order them in bulk or mix & match from the menu. My absolute favourite was the carnitas-- mildly spiced pulled, marinated pork. The Baja fish was a close second. Definitely pop in when you're wandering down Main Street in Ventura. It's a gem!

“Great Food, Fun atmosphere!”
Reviewed April 24, 2012

This is a gem in the Heart of Ventura's main street. Elvis on black velvet adorns the walls and chandeliers display bras from the barrel vaulted ceiling. A must try if you like authentic street tacos. The chorizzo bean dip is unique and very delicious and the Agave wings have a great kick to them. The staff is friendly and the drinks are mixed just right. It is a great place for adults to hang out and grab a bite to eat and enjoy a cocktail. Seating is limited in the evenings but if you are browsing the shops on main street stop in and try some of the great fare.
