“Umami dwells here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

This is a great little wine and cheese shop with a small restaurant run by two charming young women, Tina & Kelly. Lots of terrific California wines, focusing on Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, with a smattering from Europe, in all price ranges. You can find some unusual high end bottles here too, like 100-point Saxum.

The cheese selection is out of this world-- beyond what you would expect to find in this little burg. Ask to sample one of the sheep's milk cheeses. Also some fine chocolates and other gourmet temptations are stocked.

The restaurant has wine tasting flights, wines by the class and a very reasonable $10 corkage for wines purchased in the adjacent wine shop. The cheese plates are of course excellent (lots of variety and proper temperature and age, unlike many places that offer these with wine tastings). Charcuterie is also phenomenal.

The sandwiches are enormous! You will be shocked at the size of even a half. Soups are consistently deeply flavored and you'll find local produce used in unique and delicious ways. If you aren't hazardously full after dining, try the pots de creme, both chocolate and butterscotch (with fleur de sel and caramel sauce!) are killer.

You can avoid having to pay for on street parking by parking in the municipal lot on Palm between Main and Santa Clara.

If you are a local, consider joining the monthly Paradise Pantry wine club. You receive discounts and wines selected by Tina and Kelly to your taste.

“My favorite place for wine, food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

We've been going to Paradise Pantry for years as our go-to Date Night. They have just moved locations, and the new place is even better. Great food, really friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive staff, and amazing wines. The new fish soup is awesome, as is the butterscotch Pot du Creme. Why go anywhere else?!

“Best Food & Drink in Ventura”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2013 via mobile

My wife and I go to Paradise Pantry whenever we visit downtown Ventura. They just moved locations. They're now on the other side of downtown by the mission (222 E. Main St). The new space is amazing - much more room, cozy nooks for casual wine tastings, fantastic retail side, and same great food!

This is a highlight for Ventura. A must visit.

“Great and Growing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

This small deli/diner is superb. A very extensive wine stock, cheeses to delight of all types, great food and large menu. Check location - they will be closed for 2 weeks in order to move to a much larger facility on downtown Main street in Ventura. A culinary and/or take home experience you will not want to miss in Ventura.

“Wine and Cheese Shop in Downtown Ventura”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2012

This place is packed tight with wine. They do wine tastings too. The cheese is the star of the show here. They have lots of kinds of cheese to choose from, with lots of blue varieties. I imagine most of their business is take away wine and cheese. They also have a kitchen that does soups, salads, and sandwiches. The food is delicious. Wine prices are on the high side in my opinion. There are only a small number of tables. Good place to go with a "foodie". I will definitely stop back for more cheese, and maybe come for a meal too.
