The California Pizza Kitchen in Ventura, located in the Pacific View Mall, offers decent corporate lunch fare--better than most, but not necessarily exciting. We were seated right away, without reservations. The dining area is pleasant, and the wait staff was competent and attentive. The mediterranean focaccia was sinfully delicious. We shared one with our entire table. it comes with soft butter and olive oil--a great diet splurge. The margherita pizza was a tad greasy, but flavorful. The "carmelized peach salad" came with canned peaches, which did not look as though they had been anywhere near a grill or oven, and were definitely not "carmelized." Nevertheless, the salad was tasty--one in our party got the salad with shrimp, the other with chicken. Both were good. The roasted vegetable salad has great potential, however, the veggies were unfortunately over-drenched in oil. If you order this item, ask that they go light on the oil, and you should get a fairly yummy salad. Overall, the menu selections offered a very nice variety for a business lunch group. The prices are a tad high for what you get in terms of quality. The portions, however, are generous.

Positives: great service, and a clean, pleasant dining area

Negatives: prices are a bit high, the food quality is only slightly above average, and the food preparation relies too heavily on oils and fats, rather than fresh flavors.

Took my lil old white hair grandmother (who doesnt get out much these days) my aunt and girlfriend for lunch one day last week. We each ordered a different pizza and swapped up slices which was kinda fun (Plain ole pepperoni just doesnt do it for me anymore). We also share a salad and a tiramisu for dessert. Everything was great and I even kidded with my grandma that she could now knock CPK off her "bucket list". If you are looking for something different on your pizza give this a shot.

We eat here about once every other month or two. Always w/ our 4yr old daughter, so yes it's very kid friendly. Depending on the time & what is taking place in Ventura, it can be very busy. Expect a 15-45 minute wait. It's in a mall & a popular chain , don't be surprised or frantic w/ the staff if you have to wait. It is your choice!!
Waitstaff , for the most part, it is a lot of high-school college staff, upfront. We have had good luck most of the time. We had a waiter who was wise enough to talk kindly to our child about her favorite movies & disney characters ...smart move! And we had great service from him! Needless to say, he was tipped well. Though we have had some of the younger staff make the mistake of having their friends dine while they worked. And were so focused on chatting their friends up, while on the clock, the service, was horrible.
Food, great menu, the salads are very fresh & nicely done using quality produce. The pizza selection is very nice, they have traditional pizzas & some very unique & yummy selections. Kids., menu my daughter has tried their pizza & pastas. Pleased w/ both. The kid portions are a fair amount of food.
Overall we are pleased w/ this location. Though for those who complain about the staff, not getting their food fast. We have seen this done. Just think for a minute, it's not the staff...IT"S A BUSY DAY. Do the math people if you wait 20 minutes to be seated on a packed day...once you place your order..it make take a tad bit longer to get your pizza. If it's busy in the front..the kitchen is busy to. unlike a cheap pizza place, these are made to order. Your allowing for prep & baking. It's good & worth the wait!
