“Really nice place, off the beaten path”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

Rhumbline is a beautiful, comfortable restaraurnt with great seafood and a beautiful view of Ventura Harbor. The brunch is especially yummy. The one minus is that the area around it isn't very walkable so its hard to go for a stroll afterwards, like you can in so many other places in Ventura.

“Great view, Ok food”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

I was here for a group event so wasn't ordering off the menu. Ambiance is wonderful - right on the water. Easy parking, great view.
Food was so so -- I had Sea Bass with polenta and veggies - Fish was a bit bland, very large portion; veggies were a bit overcooked. Polenta was also kinda of bland.

If you are looking for somewhere to enjoy the view, this is it. If you are looking for amazing food, may want to try elsewhere (although I may give it another try and order something else...)

“Food was bad, piano player was worse.”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

We three ladies were looking forward to a Sunday lunch/brunch at the Marina. I believe this was formerly The Scotch and Sirloin & we'd been there many years before. We were pleasantly greeted & taken to a lovely table with a view of the docks, sailboats, etc. Upon entering we walked past someone playing the piano (badly) & thought him to be one of the bar patrons, "but no". He was to continue playing loudly thorughout our meal. In a nutshell, the wait staff were very good, pleasant, and attentive. The food was just this side of terrible (and what can you do to Potatoes O'Brien & eggs over easy?) The manager came over after we asked that the music be a little more in the background & said he would try to muffle the sound. We were told by the staff that we were not the only ones complaining and wondered if that was truly the case why the problem wasn't remedied. In any case, if they can't find a new chef & replace the piano player I don't see much future for this restaurant.

“A real mixed bag”
Reviewed June 19, 2013 via mobile

The view is spectacular and the outdoor seating looks great. Inside half of us had a good view because the tables are set up the long way. I was looking at people seated in the bar area above us.
My friend's halibut was overcooked but was replaced by a good salmon and excellent creamy mashed potatoes. The parmesan grits that came with the shrimp was flavorful, and my calimari was lightly battered and tasty, but the salad it was served on was mainly lettuce had hardly any dressing or flavor.

Our waitress was friendly but disappeared when we wanted her even though it was a Tuesday night and she was only serving two tables. Even the bar was amazingly uncrowded on a warm, clear evening. She misspoke about the oyster special, and double entered the tip included for a party of 6 or more.

The restaurant has a reasonably priced, interesting wine list, a good happy hour and a nice ambiance, however, it is a real mixed bag- some menu items unmemorable and the service uneven, but great mashed potatoes, salmon, and 7 layer chocolate cake. I may come back for happy hour sometime.

“We were pleasantly suprised”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

with an impromptu late lunch decision to try something different, the Rhumbline was the winner of our "let's try something different" choice. The service was great! Chelsea was very friendly and helped us to decide on the many delicious choices of cocktails, apps and main course.
The Gazpacho was YUMMY! the crab cakes, because they were not fried, were delicious and the grilled Halibut taco was perfect! We will go back for sure!
