We were there on a Wednesday and it was lovely. You can stroll the shops and get a treat or a wonderful meal. Great selection of food options -- BBQ, seafood, Mexican, even delicious Greek. You can sit and watch the boats and enjoy the view from many angles. All the art galleries and shops are incredibly fun to browse. There's a small carousel for kids. Even the public restrooms were super-clean. Nice!!

There are several restaurants to choose from. Very fresh fish. The shops are cute and all of the boats are a nice to walk and look at.

We went here because we looked at TripAdvisor to look for a place to eat before we drove back to Northern CA. We decided to eat at Brophy Bros. Restaurant (see separate review of restaurant, if interested). We got here at 1pm on a Sunday and OMG...the parking lot was crazy busy and full. We had to circle a few times before we finally were able to time it right and we followed a couple to their car. There are a lot of eateries at this place and many little shops. We walked around to look at the different shops, but it was just too crowded and too little of a place.

Having lived in the Ventura Harbor area for 26 years, I've seen a great deal of positive change to the Harbor Village, which is a major seaside attraction for people in the community, as well as countless visitors. To begin with, the harbor was not just created for tourism. A large part of the harbor development is residential (Ventura Keys with homes on the water); a large support facility and fishing fleet exists; recreational boating is a major factor in the harbor's success; two yacht clubs are on the harbor; the petroleum industry services offshore oil rigs using company boats; the Channel Islands National Park has administrative offices in the harbor and an interpretive visitor center open free to the public; a fleet of recreational sport fishing and dive boats conduct business, as well as Island Packers, a company that transports visitors to all five of the national parks channel islands.

Yes, tourism is a big part of what the harbor represents, but is not the whole story. The tourists are attracted to a great degree by the spectrum of purposes of the harbor. How great it is to see a seafood processing operation next to a very popular seafood restaurant. How interesting to learn that the great calamari you are eating, just caught that morning from the waters just outside of the harbor, is part of the largest squid fishery on the west coast.

How wonderful is it to take a short walk the visitor center of the Channel Islands National Park; view the brand new film "A Treasure in the Sea" in its comfortable auditorium, tour the informative center with its very special displays, all for free.

The beauty of Ventura Harbor is its closeness to everything connected with the ocean. Just across the road from the village you can use the superb surfing sites, or find a beach with calm waters designed for the little ones or people only wishing to swim.

Ventura Harbor has it all. It is not just a place with great restaurants, shops, art galleries, water craft rentals, harbor events, musical groups and people watching.

My dad lives nearby and this was great to walk around at night with the kids. They have an arcade and multiple types of food to choose from for dinner.
