“Nice lake for hiking around”

Lake Casitas Recreation Area

I have not camped here and the water is not accessible to swim in. Boats are allowed for fishing, though. I am a hiker, so usually take my dog and walk the trail around most of the lake. It is scenic, mostly level and has nice views of the lake and wine properties in Ojai. It makes for a relaxing, not strenous hike/walk near sunset.

Lake Casitas has the best water park in the local area. It also has nice camp sites and picnic areas. If you enjoy fishing, this lake also holds large Nebraskan Tail Walker trout that are planted every winter. The bass fishing is second to none.

We went there on a Wednesday to spend the day with our 4 years old son. He had a blast! they have a lazy river and a pool with playground structure where the kids can play all day long; tickets are $12 per person and you are not allow to bring any kind of food inside :(

Other than that, is better is you go after having a good brunch or if you go back and forward to your car to get something to eat (you will see a lot of people doing that). They also have some vendors outside for snacks and drinks. Prepare yourself to be there at least for 3 hours or more, kids love to play and they will go to the river over and over again. They also have a good dozen of lifeguards checking on the kids. The showers inside the bathrooms have also a fee but the

We have visited this camp ground several times for a long weekend and enjoyed it every time.

This camp ground covers a huge area on one side of Lake Casitas. There are also many choices of camping for all styles, tents to luxury coaches, dry to full hook-up. All at reasonable rates, reservations can be made on-line and the web site is a good representation of the actual camp ground and there are photos of each space so you really can pick your space & view. (http://reservations.casitaswater.org/)

There is a boat launch ramp for small boats, all boats must be inspected and tagged for bugs. Next to the boat ramp is a small store where you can rent a boat and fishing gear, not cheap. There is also large café, we didn't eat there, but it has a great view of the lake.

For the kids there is a (seasonal) huge water park with lots of water stuff to keep them busy for hours.

We have always chosen the "Fox" area as it have partial and full hookups, with wide spaces which allow for comfort and privacy. It also allows for groups to get together and just hang an play games. We were there this year for the Super Bowl and there were several groups have parties. There also just happens to be the main store just across the street from the Fox area. All spaces are concrete with side slabs, fire-pit, hookup including cable TV.

Facilities are limited but available. Showers are scattered and few, toilets are from porta-potties to full bathrooms. All are clean and well cared for. Before you book which area and space you want to book check on what facilities you will need to see if they are close by.

Lots of choices for all types of people and campers. Good for families, couples, older-set, tents to full size rigs, 5th wheelers, etc. no limits.
