I finally stopped at the Shoals today at 2 pm and had a very pleasant late lunch.

Just a Caesar salad with shrimp and a Coke for $19 with tip. The salad was very good and maybe with about 4 more shrimp it would have been perfect, but it was topped with fresh cheese, nicely grilled shrimp and toast with tomatoes and cheese on top.
I enjoyed the view of the big waves from my table. There was not a crowd, and everyone was eating outdoors.

There was some work being done on the tile around the pool, but they weren't loud or distracting. There was water in the pool but it need to be cleaned. Once they are finished it should be a wonderful place to stay.

The location of the restaurant is the only positive of this place. If you dine outdoors you are just feet away from the water. You can hear the surf and see the waves and it makes for an ideal outdoor experience. Unfortunately you are surrounded by furniture and items that are lying around the grass area and building. And the pool was being worked on so there was only a concrete hole in the ground.
The food is okay. The steamed clams were in a salty broth. My husband would have liked a bigger bowl of clam chowder. It was almost $40.00 dollars for Sunday brunch. The bread was hard and we never got a refill on our water. Lunch took a little over an hour so don't expect quick or efficient service.
We did not stay at the hotel so we cannot comment on those. We did notice that most of the rooms face the water but most do not have balconies or patios to enjoy the scenery.

We went to the Cliff House for Mother's Day and were very disappointed. The wait staff doesn't use pads or pens, everything is by memory; very impressive........when it works! The entire meal turned into one big joke with non-stop screw-ups from the items ordered to the delivery of the food to the table. Maybe our waiter confused our table with one on the other side of the dining room. The frosting on the cake turned out to be dessert we hadn't ordered served without forks or spoons and a waiter that went on break. Oh well, there's always the value of a good camp fire story.
