“Best Nachos in Town!”
Reviewed June 29, 2009

The drinks here are great and not too pricey. The gorditas are great. The nachos are fantastic! Remember the old nachos from Bowl El Paso? Well, the cook is now here and they are the best!

“The food is neither authentic or fresh - like Chevy's, but poorly run”
Reviewed January 2, 2007

We ate here Jan. 2, 2007 with two Mexican expatriates. Every plate was dissapointing . . .the steak - tampiquena, a sampler of Mexican specialities called the "especialidad de la casa," a beef soup and a child's plate of chicken strips.

The steak was flavorless and greasy and the toppings were not fresh. Each "speciality" - was only eaten half way - "terrible" said my sister-in -law who is an excellent cook of Mexican dishes. The beef soup tasted ok at first but my appetite started to drain halfway through. I suspect the meat was old and had been stewing for some days. The vegetables in the broth were deceptively fresh and tasty -- I suspect they were added later.

At least, these plates presented well -- the child's plate was a real rip-off: two frozen, breaded chicken strips and some frozen potato "happy faces" all deep-fried - for $4.50 -- an insult to any parent or child. It neither looked nor tasted good - and certainly wasn't Mexican. My two year old daughter took a bite of a chicken strip and identified the eyes and face of a fried potato and otherwise refused her plate.

This food should be avoided at any price, but at $40.00 this dinner is also expensive by El Paso standards.

The decor is pleasant - sort of like a Chevy's on a budget. They have a full bar and it would probably help to order a couple of shots if you are going to brave this fake Mexican fare.
