Take a journey back to the 1870's. the Magoffin Home is a must see in El Paso. I had an opportunity to teach with one of Josephine Magoffin's nieces in the early 70's. This is just a taste of our rich history, So many questions to ask. The tour guide was exceptionally knowledgable.

We had a couple of hours to kill on the way to the airport, and this was time well spent.

Magoffin House is an extremely well curated house museum.
The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly.
We were on our tour with a couple of local families, and our guide was great at answering our nerdy questions as well as catering to kids.
If you want to see TX colonial history from the inside, this is the way to do it.

Since the home stayed in the family for a long time, there is a lot of original furniture, which makes for an interesting visit.

A quick shout out for the Manager Leslie, who was so welcoming and gave us great advice on restoring our old house. Neat lady, and a neat place.

Definitely recommended if you like history even a little bit.

The tour was really nice, the price is ok. But You can't roam trough the rooms by yourself. You have to be with the guide all the time; so the group was 12 people and at some point I start feeling that we were overcrowding the rooms. You can't touch anything, So I Don't recommend this place for Families with really young kids.

My good friend from Melchnau, Switzerland, Chris Gafafer-Luthi, has visited our Hidden Gem of the World (Northern & Western Hemisphere) and this site was high on his list of "must-see". Mine, too, except I have too many other "must-do" that have excluded paying attention to this wonderfully important place. I hadn't been here in several years, and was amazed at how well preserved this critical piece of history continues to be managed.
Anyway, Our $4(usd) fee per person bought us a personalized guided tour through the naturally air-conditioned/high ceilinged structure that hosted the beginnings of a vibrant El PasoTX-USA. It was here that the upstanding Magoffin family guided a tiny community off-shoot grazing field/suburb of the much larger & dynamic South bank city (Ciudad Juarez) by encouraging and promoting growth from the Rio Bravo/Rio Grande floodplain status into the thriving current metropolis today. Anybody with any sense of our past, present, and future needs to spend time here learning about one family who made the most of what was available, with an eye to the future. Highly recommended!

This is the home of El Paso's 1st mayor. The architecture is unusual in the southwest. Guided tour is $7 and took about 1 hour. After the tour you can walk around the neighborhood to also look at the historical building in El Paso. I went in October on a Saturday morning. It wasn't crowded and weather was nice for a stroll.
