“Wonderful wedding night!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2011

My husband and I stayed here for our wedding night. We ate at Ashley's and the service was amazing in both the restaurant and the hotel. The concierge even ran a bath for us and decorated the room per my husband's request. The room was gorgeous. It had a large sitting area, a table and chairs, king size bed and a nice TV armoire. The bathroom was enormous! It had a large jacuzzi tub, seperate shower, double sinks, and private toilet area. Everything was absolutely perfect and I can't wait to go back to celebrate our anniversary!

I've attended many events at the Capitol Hotel, but have never spent the night. Friends who live in DC and travel around the world claim that these are among the finest accomodations anywhere. There is an often published story about the 2 year period when the hotel was closed for renovations: The owner of the hotel, Jack Stephens, in order to reward good service and instill loyalty, kept all the hotel staff on payroll while the hotel was closed. Service is indeed special and the hotel is lavishly restored. (I always insist that newcomers visit the lobby restrooms just to see how nice.)

But my review is directed at the hotel bar and grill. Indeed, the main restaurant, Ashleys, is one of the best in Arkansas. Chef Richardson recently won a multi-State chef competition. Ashley's cures their own bacon, makes their own preserves, bakes their own saltine crackers, etc., but much of the same food is available in the bar. The bar is open through the afternoon and stays open late. Atmosphere is top notch - tall ceilings, rich mahogany wood. I am normally a wine drinker, but CHBG is the only place where I prefer their custom drinks. They make their Sazerac (in accordance with the historical New Orleans recipe) with cognac rather than bourbon or rye. Try the Southern Comforter, made with pecan extract and served over crushed ice in a frosted metal julep cup. The staff is very cordial and knowledgeable. As I mentioned, the food is the same caliber as provided in the signature restaurant. Prices are very reasonable, portions are ample, and I have reused the substantial plastic "to go" containers as Tupperware at home. If limited to one, this is my favorite Little Rock restaurant.

Also note, if you are not staying at the hotel, valet parking is free if you are eating at the Captiol.

Room Tip: I saw a one-BR corner suite on the 2nd floor that had a "guest bathroom" in addition to th...

This is our favorite hotel to stay at in LR. The personal service and historic building are great. The location is perfect for river market shopping and dining, but why leave? With Ashey's in the lobby and an amazing bar there is no reason to go anywhere else!

When you walk into the lobby of this hotel, you know you are somewhere different. From the desk clerk to the maid service, everyone is friendly and greets you as if you are the only guest. No detail is left unattended to in the guest rooms and throughout this property. The meeting facilities are top notch, and the food is wonderful! A must-stay if you are in the Little Rock area.

I stayed for two nights at the Capital Hotel, and from the moment I entered the sumptuous lobby, the five-star experience began. The 94-room hotel is widely acknowledged as the best in the state, and for good reason. The staff at the front desk is warm and friendly, and my room on the third floor was breathtaking.

The ceiling in the room was at least 14 feet tall, as were the elegant curtains that covered an entire wall of windows that overlooked the street. It was after 9 p.m., and the covers were turned down, revealing incredibly soft sheets. And there, instead of an ordinary mint or chocolate on the pillow, were two bags of toffee. I don't want to overstate, but it was easily the best I had ever had.

The room was more than spacious, and the pillows were down-filled slices of heaven. The furnishings were tasteful, as you might expect, and the bathroom was nice, but not over the top. It featured a marble countertop and glass doors on the tub, which doubled as a shower. I always hope for a separate stall shower, but in a historic hotel, there are limitations.

The hotel includes a number of amenities worth mentioning... generously sized terrycloth bathrobes, slippers that can be taken home, and wireless connection that requires no password or special configuration.

One minor disappointment was the lack of in-room coffee maker. But to be fair, the hotel does have room service, and fresh coffee was served in the lobby bright and early. Later in the day, the hotel had lemonade out for guests -- a welcome refreshment that tasted like the real thing instead of the powdered lemonade one might expect.

One note about the hotel's location. The hotel is in the heart of a nicely developing historic area called River Market. It is filled with restaurants, the impressive main library housed in a repurposed warehouse building, and the city's top tourist attraction, the Clinton Presidential Center.

From check-in to check-out, the experience was thoroughly delightful. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else -- even in the relatively new Peabody Hotel just across the street, an exellent hotel in its own right.

We stayed for 3 nights. The hotel is a lovely old building tastefully renovated; cool, fresh, friendly. The concierge staff take your luggage as you arrive and it appears in your room by magic. Instead of laborious registration, a lady takes you straight to your room and you sign any forms there. The concierge staff are friendly and helpful. The room was beautifully furnished, the bathroom modern and there was a n evening turn-down service. All splendid as is the mezzanine balcony above the street. Our only regret was that the restaurant does not doi a la carte only complete menus which was too much food so we didn't eat there.

Stayed a weekend in late July, and the hotel manager greeted us and took us up to our room, with our luggage following close behind. Luxurious room, bed and bathroom. Quiet although you are in the heart of the city, within walking distance of the River Market. Freshly squeezed lemonade and crushed ice are set up in the hotel lobby each afternoon, which is refreshing. Walking around the hotel itself was a treat, and stepping out onto the balcony watching the trolleys go by was fun, with comfortable seating available for resting. We met our family in the hotel's Ashley's restaurant, which was delicious and highly recommended!
Very luxurious atmosphere in this wonderful hotel!
