My Aunt purchased a small 4th of July weekend getaway at the Empress in Little Rock. We stayed in the Hemingway Suite, which was the nicest room we've ever stayed in. The room amenities were great -- Jacuzzi, shower, steam shower, and aromatherapy machine. The grounds were amazing to say the least. Everything is incredibly decorated and very clean. The breakfast was excellent -- there served very unique food, rather than just standard meat and eggs. They've made repeat visitors in us and we look forward to our next stay here!

Room Tip: The Hemingway suite is the largest and most modern room.

Beautiful Victorian B&B, but Carriage House room was small for the money. We had to opt out for one of the beautiful rooms in the Empress itself because we brought our dog and the only pet friendly room is the Victorian Gardens loft-like room in the Carriage House. Beautifully appointed with a whirlpool and large shower/steamer, I just thought the room itself and bed were small for the money, which was considerable, even without the dog fee and lengthy list of taxes. I have nothing but good things to say about the warm hostess and the tasty breakfast and the gardens. It's all lovely and the owners should be congratulated for doing their share for the urban renewal in this neighborhood. I'm just not used to spending that much money on a room so small. Maybe I just don't get out enough.

Room Tip: Stay in the Empress itself

We are delighted these guests enjoyed the southern hospitality and the breakfast, hallmarks of any guests stay. We are a bit baffled by the comments about the size of the room and the bed. The bed is a traditional queen size bed with a feather overlay on the mattress, a size that most people find extremely comfortable. Indeed, we only offer guests a choice of queen and king size beds for our guests rooms. The size of the room is 20X12 ft., and the bath area preceeded by french doors is another 9X15 ft, which includes the corner couples jacuzzi and the walk in couples shower with built in sitting area for the steam and aroma therapy. Most guests choose this room for the unique spa equipment and the view from the balcony of the Moonlight Secret Garden. The wicker and garden gate type furniture and the hand painted mural reflect the feel of a garden. These carriage house rooms are most the sought after and the most desirable of our guests, regardless of price. The area also more suited to pets and apart from the historic area of the house. My only thought is, with all the dog paraphanalia and large dog carrier, they must have felt personally cramped. Nonetheless, we are delighted they enjoyed their stay and hope they will return again. We had warm conversations about the benefits of urban renewal!

I have stayed at The Empress several nights in March 2011, traveling on business. First ~ it is a LOVELY home, there are breathtaking details in every single room. The Empress is decorated in immaculate style. Second, you will find the staff and owners to be out of their way accommodating, helpful, and very pleasant. They always cook up a scrumptious breakfast that is appropriate for royalty! When I have to leave early, they fix me a breakfast to go and always put write something special on the package wishing me a happy day! What service!!!!!! The beds are comfy and the sheets are exceptionally nice. The towels and wash cloths have an extra nice feel, too! I love staying at The Empress and always look forward to my next visit.

Room Tip: ALL the rooms are lovely ~ so take your pick!

We stayed at the Empress about 10 years ago and recently returned for a one-night getaway. It was just as wonderful as we remembered it. The house is exquisite. If you are interested in Victorian decor, it is a must-see. Staff are very friendly and helpful, also. The location of the B&B is good. It's an interesting old neighborhood but not in walking distance of anything, really, so you definitely need a car. However, it's just a few minutes from downtown/River Market area and a couple of minutes off the interstate so you can get back and forth to anywhere in the city easily. I highly recommend this place for couples. It's very romantic! Oh, and they have WiFi now!
