I have never eaten at the places in New York and LA which boast of "power breakfasts", where deals are supposedly made and egos flexed. However, I would wager a bet, that the breakfast at Ashley's in Little Rock's Capital Hotel ranks with any breakfast in those powerful haunts. First, the Christmas tree in the Capital Hotel lobby received an award as one of America's 10 most beautiful. Go in to see it, if nothing else. The dining room is formal, - linens and flowers and silver and crystal - but the service is totally friendly and down home. No pretense, no attitude. One guy had a suit on and the next guy had jeans on. They are welcoming to everyone. There are free New York Times and other newspapers laying out on a table inside the door. The menu has ala cartes and full breakfasts. The prices are reasonable for what you receive. My full breakfast was 12 dollars and I could have spent less or more. Be sure and ask them what their specialties are - what is made from scratch on the menu which deserves ordering. They may say that their bacon is made from scratch (bacon? I honestly didn't realize bacon COULD be made from scratch at a restaurant! They also have a pastry chef who makes fresh croissants, muffins etc - I had a special almond and blueberry muffin and I normally could not begin to figure out whether a muffin was home-baked, and this one was obvious even to me - really amazing. They even had two kinds of home-made butters as well. Though you will not see them around, Ashley's is carefully overseen by the very successful and generous Stephens family who owns the hotel. Every detail is taken care of. They are open for breakfast every day. Give yourself a present in 2014 and have breakfast in this great place. They plan a remodel in the spring so there could be some closure and changes coming up. Knowing the Stephens, I suspect they will find a way to make it even better.
