Love this hotel for its location near the Shakespeare Festival. We've stayed here at least three time! No complaints!

As Best Westerns go, the El Rey is on the lower end of the scale (certainly not fit for the King (el rey)). The room was clean, though sparse. It had an odd smell (the smell of old hotel), but it was reasonable in price. The worst feature was the gym, which is downright depressing - if you like the stair master you have to lean forward to avoid sticking your head through the ceiling.

We were looking for a clean hotel that served breakfast for a golf trip to Southern Utah and Nevada. This was our first stop and our only bad one. The room, supposedly a suite was weary, worn and not up to expectation. The bathroom...well, other peoples hair, cracks down the floor....the breakfast was served in an area the size of a hotel room, beverages in open top pitchers (not my idea of sanitary with lots of people and kids in and out). The tables were very few, I think 7 or 8 very small ones, they were very dirty as was the floor and windows. Parking lots front and back of our room, chair near the bed had tears down to the metal on the arm. We were to stay two nights, checked out after one, the owner was not happy with that and told us so, another disappointment!

Noisy traffic no air or fans available to us that night. They were really conservative with amenities. Hot tub in basement. It was clean though. Outside could be cleaned up better. Bedding was comfortable especially pillows. Need new blankets and towels.

Room Tip: Suite nothing special.

Stayed for the weekend to ski in nearby Brian Heads. Room was cosy and very well appointed for amount paid. Staff were very friendly and helpful, wifi was playing up and they did everything to help restore it. Had a very uncomfortable night due screaming kids (and adults - nice!) thru the connecting door, nothing to do with the hotel itself. I checked to see if they were leaving that day, or ask to move. In the end I found out that the hotel "moved" the family from hell so I could get a good nights sleep! How nice was that??? Warm, friendly, personal, what a great hotel and excellent value for money. I could not recommend enough.

We booked the 3 queen suite which worked well for our party. The rooms, decor, furnishings, etc. are quite outdated, however, I don't go to hotels for the aesthetic, I go there to have a place to sleep. I'm pretty sure at least 2 of the beds were only doubles and the mattresses aren't super comfortable but again, we arrived very late after driving through a significant storm and were just happy to have a safe place to rest. I was not impressed with how icy the outside steps were; I realize I just mentioned there had been a storm, but it was clear the steps had not been de-iced or shoveled for quite some time. Not pleasant to be carrying suitcases and bags down stairs covered with ice - shame on the management for this one. I could cut them some slack if it looked like they had even tried by time we checked out the following day, but such was not the case. Wasn't too impressed with the cleanliness; old and worn are okay - grime is not and it was the latter I noticed on the bathroom tiles.

The breakfast is fine; nothing to write home about but everyone found enough variety and nourishment to get them through. I think people need to be reasonable in their expectations when the cost of breakfast is included in the rate, especially when the hotel does not have a restaurant and is making the best of the facilities they have available.

I'm not sure if I would stay there again; the price was probably fair enough given it was a long weekend in ski season but if I could find a similar rate elsewhere, I would go somewhere different.

We found the 3 queen suites perfect for family. Clean, and attentive staff. The owner is onsite, and it shows. This hotel was nice for us because its not one of the ones on the freeway ramps, its in the downtown area, such that it is. So, things are walkable if others in your party have the car and are off skiing at Brianhead, which is about 35 minutes away.
