“Shakespeare is happening!”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

We live an hour away from Cedar City and always make the time to come up and see some of the productions put on during the show season. Often, friends from Southern California who are big Shakespeare fans come for a visit with the purpose of attending the festival. This years' "Hamlet" was an excellent interpretation of the classic tale. We've also seen more modern musicals such as "The Music Man" that are fun, energizing, and very enjoyable. Worth the price of admission!

“Top Notch Acting”
Reviewed October 8, 2012

The only reason we did not give an excellent rating this year for their fall shows was the orchestra for Les Miserables. How can you have such top-notch acting and then only support them with a so-so orchestra. There was a trumpet blat and clarinets out of tune. I tried ignoring them but since this is really an operatta, that's not an option.

We were also extremely disappointed with the crude language in Stones In His Pockets. The acting was superb but the content was not. We left at the intermission. However, this is my own fault for not checking their website like I usually do. The Utah Shakespeare Festival is very good about advising patrons if there is content that might be objectionable. Sure enough, there was a "language advisory" on this one. Had I done my homework like I usually do, I wouldn't have attended this play.

“Never Disappointed”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

We have vistied the Shakespeare Festival every year for about 30 years, almost always with our children, and now with our grandchildren. My main love has always been the Shakespeare plays, but over the years there have been many other memorable performances of plays, both classical and modern, as well as musicals that have pleased and entertained. The quality of the actors, directors and sets has been excellent. This fall's performances of "Hamlet" and "Stones in His Pocket" were outstanding. While Cedar City is not an exciting city, Cedar Canyon, Cedar Breaks National Monument, the Kolob Canyons section of Zion National Park and Zion itself are all within a reasonable distance for day visits while seeing the plays.

“We go back every year”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

This is our favorite way to spend a few days together and see professional-quality theatre--Shakespeare as well as other wonderful plays and musicals. We always look forward to the next season's great plays.

A Top Tier Festival with Reasonable Prices and Occasional Performances as Good as any you find On Broadway. Ceder City provides litte of interest to keep you for more than a couple of hours - so plan accordingly.
