After checking into the Crystal Inn, and settling into our room, my brother and I were ready for a good, full dinner. We were thrilled that when we arrived at the hotel, there was a restaurant attached to it, which meant we didn’t have to get into the car again that night.
We walked into Bard’s at approximately 7:30pm on Wednesday, September 11th and were promptly seated. The restaurant was not crowded at all at this time. Our server took our drink orders while we checked over the menu, which was quite extensive. I ordered the rib-eye dinner and my brother ordered the Turkey Leg, which the server said would take 18 minutes to make. Both entrees come with a soup and basic salad bar. After about 5 minutes, the server was back at our table apologizing because the last turkey leg was sold prior to my brother’s order. He then ordered the chicken Marsala. After about another 5 minutes, the server was back again, and again apologizing because they were out of chicken Marsala. Meanwhile, we were both enjoying the local beers that we had ordered. Figuring that there was probably some rib eye left in the kitchen, my brother decided to order that.
Both rib-eye dinners with our side dishes were brought to our table as ordered, in a time frame that I would consider as being reasonable. Everything was good.
My brother and I are very easy going, so the fact that they were out of 2 of my brother’s first choices and dinner was delayed because of it, was a non-issue to us. In fact, we made light of it, for when a couple sat down in the booth adjacent to ours, I told them the story and asked them if they would order the turkey leg and chicken marsala, just to see what the server would do or say. They did and we all had a good laugh.
Because the food was good, the service was quite good and the local brews were very good, I would consider dining here again. For those of you who might be on time constraints or are a bit more demanding at the dinner table, you might not give Bard’s the marks that I gave them.
