Eat here on St. Patrick's Day. They did have music and dancing for the occasion but the food is not the greatest. The Irish Hen and Ham is listed as being served in many pubs in Ireland. I do not recall ever seeing it on a menu in Ireland. It was basically half a chicken breast with the wing still attached stuffed with two slices of Virginia ham. No real flavor at all. It came with a lump of what I think was stuffing on the side. The salad bar is very small and not the freshest of choices were available. On the positive side the bread was very good as was the coleslaw. So if you’re in the mood for bar food and beer the Shamrock is not a bad option. If you’re looking for traditional Irish food this is not the place I would go.

We live in north central Maryland and have occasion to eat at Shamrock often. The food is always well prepared and tastes great. They specialize in Irish food and have a large and varied selection. Also they have some fine Irish crafts and homemade breads for sale. The soup and salad bar is small but tasty and included homemade breads. We've found the service to be very good with very little turnover in the staff.

The last time I visited the Shamrock was in the 1980s, and I was delighted to find that it's still there, that it still makes great crab cakes, crispy on the outside and loaded with crabmeat! The corned beef and cabbage special was a huge plateful of corned beef, potatoes, cabbage, carrots, and green beans for $10.95. Salad bar had a good selection of lettuces, great cucumber salad, and enough other ingredients to bulk up our daily dose of roughage. The place doesn't seem to have changed much in all these years. We went mid-day, when it wasn't too busy, but service seemed a bit slow. I'll go back for the crab cakes, and hope it won't take me another 30 years to do it!

Many fond memories of stopping here on the way home from DC after shopping or Govt business. Learned over the years to eat at the bar or at least in the barroom. Bartenders are great, waitresses have been there too long-tend to be brusque or lazy. Dining room is way too crowded for comfort-but love the bar! Food is generally too expensive for a rural small town restaurant, which has no gourmet pretensions. Sit in front of the fire, relax and enjoy your Guinness. Pretend you're in an Irish Ski Chalet (takes a lot of imagination but the ski slopes are just over the next hill).
OK for families with kids but they'll enjoy Pizza Hut just as much as your wallet will. Family of 4 will probably drop about $100 if they are not careful.
Just drinks in the bar makes the most sense.

In 5 of the 6 times, we were disappointed. We are locals...lots of locals do go there.

Macaroni salad was spoiled. My waitress said, "ok, I'm sorry." LONG time later, it was removed from the salad bar. The waitress never removed my plate with the spoiled salad--just left it sit there!

The next time.. the coconut cake came with a long, black wavy hair draped across it.

Then..twice ..baked potatoes so bad that I wouldn't serve to a rat. Both times---cold and fresh yesterday (maybe).

The waitress said, "oh, I'm sorry". She left...never offered another choice or any type of compensation.

It is definitely overpriced and waaaaay under quality. The salad bar is sad.

Not willing to go back--will tell anyone who cares---don't do this.
