“Nice hike”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Beautiful scenery, lovely place. Paths are a bit hard to navigate if you are not sure footed, a lot of rocks and up and down hill climbing. Very enjoyable for our family, we hike regularly.

“awesome labor day week end in Catoctin Mountain”
Reviewed September 2, 2013 via mobile

We spent the Labor Day week-end camping at Owens Creek campground. It was a great experience despite the rain!

“Quiet and serene for a get away from it all”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

I had a short visit on a rainy morning, but the beauty and peacefulness were apparent. Having more time to hike or camp, would be ideal in this natural setting. I imagine that fall color in this area would be magnificent for a day or a weekend trip!

“Catoctin loop trail would be nice in fall...”
Reviewed August 27, 2013

The 7+ mile loop includes what backpacker magazine titled marylands "best view" chimney rock. The view is average in my opinion. It does give you that mountain "feel" that's worth the drive from Baltimore/dc for a day hike. The hike can take 4-5 hrs. And you can see cunningham falls. the park must be very pretty in the fall.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THE WEST SIDE TRAILS. they are primarily successionary forest trail that are over grown on both sides allowing for more spider webs than you could ever imagineno exaggeration my hike from the parking lot to my lean to I must have walked into 35 spider webs.
This is a good place for people who want to get into backpacking ,can practice here the park offers" FREE" adirondack style shelters that are 3 miles from the parking lot all you need to do is make a reservation online. even come with a pit toilet. the hike however is rather boring but easy for a begginer and only worth a one night stay.

“A nice place for a relaxing hike!”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

My boyfriend and I were here 3 different times in the Spring of 2013.. twice with our 3 children, and twice just the two of us. The "easy" trail isn't TOO easy, but it was easy enough for me to push a stroller with our 2 year old in it all the way to the falls.. it was a work-out, but it's what I was there for. It was also easy enough for our 3 and 5 year old to walk it without getting overly tired. The trails were clean, the scenery was pristine.. it was an overall relaxing day enjoying nature! We only spent a few hours, but if you head down to lake and playground area they have (we let our kids enjoy it for an hour or so.. it was pretty nice and looked fairly new) you could picnic and let the kids play for most of the day.

Note: There is a small fee per person (excluding children in car seats) which is discounted for Maryland residents.
