“Decent hotel... but not my top choice”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2013

Stayed here in July 2013 for 4 nights. The hotel is right in Korea town, which is pretty central in Manhattan. However, it wasn't my favourite location choice. This is only because I've stayed on Times Square in the past and enjoyed this more - but some people do not like the busy surroundings of this. Minor detail to some and location is preferential depending what it is you're there to do.

The hotel itself is kept very clean and the rooms were spacious and clean also, very comfortable beds. There is free Wifi, which is a major bonus to an avid iPhone user like myself. Breakfast included which is a pretty useful start to your day if you're planning on walking around the city for a lengthy amount of time. It gets busy but it is just a small room, by the time you've grabbed your food there's usually a table available from other people just finishing up. We spent about 10 minutes maximum at breakfast and were done and ready to go!

Yes, the elevators in this hotel take what seem to be forever and can be very very slow. The stay itself overall was pleasant and we got it at a fairly good price.

The only reason I'm giving this hotel an 'average' review is because nothing really stood out to me or made this hotel that great. 90% of the staff I encountered seemed far from friendly. The reception staff didn't really seem like they wanted to be there - one lady in particular seemed pretty miserable every time I saw her. There was just nothing very attractive about the place. The nicest staff I came across were the housekeepers and the porter - a lovely guy! I wouldn't NOT recommend this hotel but I wouldn't stay here again myself if I ever returned to New York.

I stayed for 5 days in La Quinta this September. Frankly, I was not too enthused by the overall ambiance and room. Be it the make shift arrangement at the restaurant where they serve breakfast with chairs getting dragged by the patrons all the time as if there is a musical chair going on or the dingy entrance and the long queue for the elevator that always took ages to come. Luckily I was on 3rd floor so I could manage coming by stairs and last day I came by stairs carrying my big suitcase and a small one with a laptop bag :( as I was afraid of loosing my flight. The breakfast offered is nothing to talk about that's very very basic with practically no variety and a banana for fruits. I think they are taking huge advantage of their location and are least bothered about other aspects. The staff at reception is friendly though I did not get one night with them after I returned from Ohio in between my stay, though I had a confirmed reservation and they made arrangements at another hotel nearby. In all not so great place actually...

Dear Sandiii999,
Thank you for your review. We’re sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us. We are currently in the process of renovating and expanding the lobby and breakfast room. They should be complete by January 2014. The elevators can get held up during busy hours of the day and we apologize for any inconvenience. We try to provide as much variety at breakfast as possible. In addition to bananas, we also offer apples and other seasonal fruit.
The majority of our guests return because of our excellent location and value they receive when staying with us. Our rates are always competitive and we offer free amenities like WIFI, breakfast, and domestic phone calls that aren’t offered in other Manhattan hotels.
We hope you will give us another chance in the future.

My husband and I stayed one night this weekend for his birthday trip and to visit our daughter who lives in the city. We had never stayed here...but the price for the location sounded good so we tried it. Wonderful...I can't say anything negative. Room was spacious, decorated nice, bathroom good...fun area....we would definitely stay again. We checked in at 1:00 and knew this was early (check in is at 3) but the nice girl at the front desk asked if we wanted the 6th floor and we did and got right into our room. This will definitely be our go to hotel in the city!!!

We chose the La Quinta because it was one of the cheapest hotels in Manhattan at the time of our stay, and it seemed to offer exactly what we were looking for. And it didn't disappoint when we arrived.

The location is perfect if, like us, you don't mind a little walk... it's far enough away from the noise and relative craziness of Times Square, but close enough to walk to and from every morning and evening. There are plenty of places to eat close to the hotel, particularly if you like Asian food!

Breakfast was very busy every time we ate, but it offered a fair selection of continental items, including (our favourite) donuts... Only in America can you warrant Donuts for breakfast!!

The bedroom was big enough for what we wanted, and very clean. Alright, the view out of the window wasn't all that, but honestly? How much time do you spend in your room when you're in such an amazing city?

When I go back to visit New York, I will check out the prices of this hotel, because I would definitely stay again.

Chose La Quinta for our 5 night stay in September based on location, price (on a discount website) and TA reviews and we were very happy with the choice. Although there is a lot of construction, hence scaffolding etc, in the street out front and still apparently renovations going on in the foyer, neither bothered us too much. Neither did the frequently mentioned slow lifts or crowded breakfast room - it does pay to eat early though. Breakfast was basic but quite adequate and a staff member was in attendance to replenish breakfast foods as required. Included breakfast is a bonus for a city hotel these days, I think. The lifts are small and there are busy times I'm sure - just didn't happen to be a hassle when we needed a lift.
Location is very close to the Herald Square subway station which we used as our point of entry to the subway when we weren't exploring on foot. Plenty of restaurants and fast food outlets close by, either in the Penn Station direction or round the corner on 5th Avenue. Speedy's deli is very close and a reasonable priced option for a quick meal. We also ate at Cafe Martinique, just around the corner near the subway entrance - one time was at midnight after our nighttime viewing from the Empire State Building!
The rooftop bar is a great spot for a night time glimpse of the Empire State Building although it does get very crowded and the drinks are quite expensive. We don't like cigarette smoke and there were a few smokers on the terrace when we visited but it is nice to sit out on a balmy evening.
As previously mentioned, the bedrooms and ensuites are small but have all the essentials for the short time you spend in your room. Our room was on the 6th floor and very quiet and clean with a very comfortable bed. Staff were friendly and accommodating and we could not have been happier with our stay at La Quinta.

On a post-retirement trip down the east of US starting off in New York last week, chose La Quinta through Tripadvisor reviews and central location. We were not disappointed. The location was perfect for our arrival and departure from Penn Station as well as walking distance to many attractions. The room was small but clean and well-appointed with one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in! The bathroom was also very small but well-thought out with an excellent shower. The hotel was fully booked when we were there but we never had to wait more than a few minutes for a table at breakfast and that was usually around 8.00-8.30. The rooftop bar was expensive but fun, all in all a very positive experience and one we would be happy to repeat. All I would add would be that it was very noisy at the front of the hotel due to building work which seemed to be going on all over New York while we were there but ear plugs helped!

Dear Joan F,
Thank you for your review. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you enjoyed New York as well as the other places you visited on your trip. We recently renovated the guest rooms and bathrooms, so we’re happy to hear that you were satisfied. Hotel rooms in New York tend to be on the smaller side, but the majority of our rooms are about average size for New York hotel rooms. We are currently in the process of expanding the lobby and breakfast room, which should be complete by January, so if you visit us again after then, you hopefully won’t have to wait at all for a table at breakfast.
We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you again soon!

This was our first stay at La Quinta Inn, down the block from our usual hotel at less than half the price. We were there for two nights. It's a great location, on hopping Korea Town (32nd St between Broadway and 5th Ave). The rooms have been recently renovated, and the lobby is still under renovation. Our room was an adequate size, as was the bathroom. Nothing fancy, and no view, but clean, well lit, comfortable and quiet. AC worked well. The bath amenities were basic, but the water pressure was good. Our room had 2 luggage racks (they get it!) and an in room safe. The breakfast was pretty unremarkable, but OK, and how many NYC hotels even provide breakfast? The lobby got crowded and the elevators were slow when a large tour group checked in, but at all other times there was no problem. The front desk staff and bellhop were very accommodating.

All in all, this hotel was a bargain for NYC, in a great location and more than adequate for our needs. There are lots of Korean restaurants nearby, and a great, reasonably priced little French Bistro, Petit Poulet, located in the Radisson hotel on the corner of 32nd and Broadway. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: We'd read that the higher floors can be noisy due to the rooftop lounge. We asked for a room o...
